Just sold a bunch of DVDs and picked up a 360. So I’ve been checking out the Live Arcade stuff - Geometry Wars 2, Mutant Storm Empire, and Omega Five.

Some Salamander Portables on the PSP (gotta love that Gradius 2 MSX with fixed scrolling) working on a clear for Gradius 2 MSX... Mushihimesama is getting frustrating to play maniac mode for score now that I scored 299mil in Maniac mode. Sorry, that was a bit redundant.

Isolated Warrior on the Nes (through emulation). When you start powering up your weapons and learn the double jump and bombing maneuvre it starts to become more enjoyable. Like most ground-based shmups it's very close to being really good but suffers from loose direction. In airborne shmups you can get away with a looser sense of direction (Compile) but when there are ground based obstacles involved everything has to be tight or else the game will feel less imersive (I'm looking at you Aleste Gaiden).

I have also played a bit of Titan Warriors, the unreleased Capcom game. It's quite fun and intense, especially the parts where you fly over a planet. These parts had of course been even better if your avatar where ground-based...

I was trying to beat it, but I stopped to wait for my rapid fire unit to arrive so that I don't get my fingers/wrist damaged while doing it. :?

Imperishable Night
Subterranean Animism

Funny story(to me at least). I was borrowing a laptop from a good friend since he got a new one. Since my PC couldn't run any of the Window's games, I decided to try it out on the laptop. They run, and pretty well, but there's a problem. Apparently, my the laptop's up key doesn't work. I didn't have access to a controller at the time, so I was pretty much boned in that respect. Then, I got curious as to whether I actually could play a manic STG with any proficiency without the up key. So I tried it out.
I was able to get to stage 4 of IN without much of a problem. Not having the up key made a few patterns harder to dodge, though.

I tried out SA next, and got raped by the stage 2 boss, Parsee. Her midboss spellcard was rendered impossible to beat without bombing. One of her other have lingering bullets, further limiting how much I could could and forcing me to bomb through it. Her last spellcard, naturally, proved to be 10x more difficult that it should have been. I finally died on Yugi's (stage 3 boss) later spellcards, but most of my deaths are credited to Parsee.

I was thinking about uploading the replays for a quick laugh, but decided against it. I can pop them up if anyone's interested, though.

Decided to give Battle Bakraid another go tonight since I got my RGB cables and adapter from Chaotic Jelly. Also played some Garegga on Saturn via RGB. I never knew the glory of RGB until I got my XRGB2+ and cables - incredible! I'm playing on a NEC Multisync 77F CRT via XRGB2+ and the picture amazes me. It is motivation to revisit all the games I have sitting on the shelf.

Just now..I mean just now...I was playing Geometry Wars on the DS.

Not really a shmup, but...meh. I enjoy it. Honestly though, I had to stop playing because my hands started to kill me after about 15 mins of play. Playing what is supposed to be a two-stick shooter with a d-pad and stylus is murder on the metacarpals.

Bakraid. Hella fun when you're just starting out and on your own you find a couple 1-2 mil chains you can make. Not sure what ship to use, though; does everyone use Flame Viper just because Icarus does? :P I've been using it for a bit, after cycling through all of them, and it doesn't seem bad.

Blade Owl and Flame Viper are my favourites, too. Bakraid is a perfect relaxing shooter when not played for score.
