Hello Shmups,

I'm Wouter and I'm starting to get addicted to shmups. I play those mainly on a region-switched Sega Saturn.

I'm a Novice so I haven't 1CC'ed many titles:

2LC R-Type Delta on PS Hard
1CC Silpheed PS2 Normal
1CC up to Stage 6 boss in Layer Section. Hard

Right now, I'm playing Sonic Wings Special SAT and I'm progressing nicely.
On Easy, I can make it to the final stage OFC with a score of 435900.
On Normal, I get a score of 328700 on Stage 5 I believe.

As you can see, I'm not that capable at this genre but I DO enjoy its many intricacies and hope to skill-up...Thanks to anyone who can point me to newbie-bootcamp!

If you came to simply stay and post, read the rules of the board and the board FAQ, and any other rule topics you may come across in other sections of the forum. If you came to simply get info, read the (unofficial) shmup glossary so you know about what any weird terms that pop up.

If you came for both, like most people, read all the stickies you can and you should be alright.

never read that glossary before!

“Ghetto Tate”: Popular term for a “view mode” (of sorts) used by certain players who want to play vertical shmups in tate mode, but do not want to deal with the risk factors of rotating their television sets; as such, they adjust the game to put its display in tate mode, but instead of rotating their TV, they simply lay on their side and play from there, in effect “rotating” themselves instead of their televisions.
