R-Type
lol I think I'll play my own game thanks... would ruin the whole experience if I didn't have any experience of my own.

R-Type is a classic. I loved that game when it hit the Master System. I've never had the chance to play the Arcade version but I have played Super R-Type and R-Type III, loved those too.

R-Type Delta wasn't bad either but never got into R-Type Final

They generally make shmups, yes, but they seem to also branch off into other genres every now and then; last year they made an MMO with Atlus. They're like Toaplan.

Ceph man, you're just fucking hilarous today. Lol. My eyes are watering from all that laughing my ass off over your simple seven worded caption. Sarcasm & humor at it's finest. ^_~

The staff of Cave would've had to use a time machine to help out with developing R-Type with Irem. You know how the story goes of how R-Type came to be, right?. It was all done in-house at Irem as both developer & publisher of the original PCB version of the same name. ^_~

CAVE is pretty much GOD of the Shmups at the moment but.. does that mean their other games are pretty good too?

Power Instincts didn't look all that impressive but I never played it or haven't tried it yet to make any real judgments myself.

I know Treasure does well in different area of games and I love most of their games, not sure about CAVE though.

Sounds like someone wasn't around in the late 90's-early 2000's, when CAVE were in their prime.

Cave sucks, 'nuff said.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

I was around but wasn't huge into Shmups back then, I liked them but didn't have the appreciation I have for them now. Considering the fact that it's harder and harder to find people to play with in other games like fighters and party games, Shmups has always been good as a single player experience. (very difficult to find people to enjoy games with now a days :( )

I was around but hadn't noticed you can say :p

Not with their current lineup, they aren't... They can call me back when they decide on a scoring system, instead of forcing you to choose which one you'll use while playing.

Is this still about Chaos Field giving you points for seconds left on the boss timer? Because that is seriously a very minor complaint.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Yeah, I was joking about the lack of competition. Gods of a practically dead arcade scene. More like the junkyard dog.

Hi, I'm new to this site and have what is probably a stupid question but what exactly is MAME? I have several good shooters from the 80's and 90's and am just getting back into gaming again and am very interested in some of the more recent ones I've seen lately. Can you get a converter for a US PS2 to play japanese games or do you have to have your system modded? Any help here is greatly appreciated! Thanx!!!!

MAME emulates arcade games. MAME is free, however, the arcade game ROMs are not free to distribute. You need to mod your US PS2 to play Japanese games. Or you could buy a Japanese PS2.
