SNK/Playmore's Metal Slug 4 & 5 for PS2 out on 5/24/05!
Got the pack today, whoo..
Played MS4 today, what a piece of shit. I can't believe Playmore had the tenacity to actually RE-USE whole fucking backgrounds (mainly from MS1, from what I see). Not to mention the bosses are easily the worst in the series. The last level is particularly disappointing for a Slug game. Gah, what a POS run 'n gunner.
I was so disgusted and bored I didn't play MS5, but I've heard good things of it.

I thought MS4 was made by Mega Enterprises and Noise Factory, not Eiolith. As far as I know, Eiolith only made a couple of KoF games and it seems like Eiolith doesn't want anything to do with SNK anymore, telling from their webpage.Cthulhu wrote:Remember that 4 wasn't made by SNK. It was made by... Eiolith, was it? The company that got the rights to SNKs stuff while it disappeared and made KOF 2001 & 2002. 5 is much, much better. I'm mainly buying the pack for 5.
I wasn't pleased with IGN's review of MS4 and MS5. Yet another review complaining about the games being short and easy. When will the media learn that credit feeding doesn't count?

I just got this collection today (traded in some games, and got the price down to about $30
), and I LOVE it! AWESOME borderliner action! And it runs very smoothly; no pixilated explosions like X on the PS1; everything looks beautiful!
It is a shame that SNK put unlimited continues in both these games, but that ain't gonna stop me from working on 1cc'ing both of 'em!
Any Superplays of either of these games yet? And on 3, how do you rescure the POW's on the parachute-platforms? I would ask in the Strategy section of the forums, but that's only supposed to be for shmups.

Now if I can just find one of 3!

Also, do all the characters in these games pretty much perform identically, or are there any differences between them?

This "policy" gets waay overstated. How many shmups does the XBOX have on it? None, and yet nobody says Microsoft has an anti 2D policy just because they let ONE borderliner (Metal Slug 3) through last year. That's ridiculous, IMO.FatCobra wrote:Damn, I completely forgot that this was out!!! I love Metal Slug, but have never played 4&5. I heard that they were pretty bad, is that true?
Wonder how this combo pack got past SECA's "2D is bad" policy.

Nobody says that Microsoft has an anti 2D policy because plenty of 2d games have come out. OK so not many shmups but tons of fighters and SNKP is bringing out loads more.dave4shmups wrote:This "policy" gets waay overstated. How many shmups does the XBOX have on it? Xbox Live Arcade....also the above mentioned stuff.dave4shmups wrote:This "policy" gets waay overstated. How many shmups does the XBOX have on it? Why is it nonsenese for me to support one company, when others voice their support for others? Sorry, but I'll support whoever I darn well please. This is a gaming forum, and people kinda sorta have a right to that. I don't go around bashing other companies. Yes, I complained about Microsoft, but I have never, as others on this forum have, compared the company to a totalitarian dictator.mannerbot wrote:The XBox has Shikigami no Shiro, Psyvariar 2, and Shiki II. The reason it doesn't have more is because it's a total flop in the only region where shmups can make any kind of money.
Dave, stop it with your "I support Sony!" nonsense. It's really annoying.
And as far as SNK 2D fighters go, BIG DEAL! You can get plenty of 2D fighters on the PS2, and they're all pretty similar in any case.
I only called it "nonsense" because I felt some might have taken offense to me calling it "shit." Yes, you can voice your support for whatever company you want. BUT DO YOU HAVE TO DO IT EVERY SINGLE TIME YOU GET THE OPPORTUNITY TO? No. That's all.dave4shmups wrote:Why is it nonsenese for me to support one company, when others voice their support for others? Also, it's a fact that SCEA isn't exactly fond of 2D games not just some rumor started and perpetuated by this forum. And I'm just going to ignore that last part about 2D fighters.

Well it's a fact that that the PS2 can play more 2D games then EITHER the XBOX OR the GameCube; especially when you factor in 2D PS1 games.mannerbot wrote:I only called it "nonsense" because I felt some might have taken offense to me calling it "shit." I'm sorry if my comments about SNK's 2D fighters annoy you, but I have seen VERY little difference or variation in their 2D fighters

Oh, and one more thing Mannerbot..I DON'T DO IT EVERY SINGLE TIME I GET THE CHANCE! Read some of the negative things I wrote about Sony's PSP in my thread about the Nanostray videos. If you're going to preach to others about searching, then practice what you preach.mannerbot wrote:I only called it "nonsense" because I felt some might have taken offense to me calling it "shit." Finally, someone with sense has seen the light. This "policy" gets waay overstated.
Maybe a few years ago, SCEA was pretty strict with 2D, but even then, the PS1 has had a load of 2D games come through...heck, even some of the earliest games were 2D (X-Com and SF Alpha). Yet with the releases of Atelier Iris and Stella Deus, some people still think SCEA really hates 2D.
If anything, I'm glad SCEA is "making" (has it even been verified that they really are?) SNKUSA double-pack the games, because I sure as hell would be pissed paying $40 for Metal Slug 4, King of Fighters 01, etc.

It doesn't seem that Mannerbot is disputing the # of 2D games for either console. He is reiterating the simple fact that Sony is not a huge fan of 2D games. Microsoft is more friendly towards 2D gaming. I would be hardpressed to believe that it is because they like 2D games. I view it as the fact that Microsoft is a newcomer in the market and thus they need to build relationships with developers, and they have the money to burn on games which may not sell at all in the states.
They are in the position where they will release pretty much anything on the console.
