Don't let ceph see this post...... I actually enjoy my PS3 about as much as my 360. Not for shooters though... they are non existent on PS3.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

I was about to smash this thing recently, but Sony was nice enough to update our consoles so media does not stutter over a network anymore. 2.52 sucked

At this point it looks like Sony and Microsoft have pretty much switched positions in terms of shmup proliferation from last generation to this one (Nintendo, on the other hand, has pretty much stayed where it was) - we might see a title or two on the PS3 eventually, but its library is pretty much guaranteed to be inferior to that of the 360. It's kind of a shame, imo, considering that we finally wouldn't have to worry about region locking if the PS3 had inherited its predecessor's position as "the shmup system."

PS3's development kit cost and difficulty of developing software for it pretty much dooms any arcade ports that won't sell many copies to begin with.

Then again, maybe a miracle will occur and we'll get Einhander 2 :P

nope.there will only be the "good games on the ps3.anyway, if you got a ps3 whos gonna buy a cave game for it.if you got that good a system you usually plan to use it for something that challenges it and i don't think cave games challenge it that much

You won't see any recent CAVE games on the PS3, they've already mentioned they chose the X360 for a variety of reasons (user base, ease of development, etc). Doesn't make much sense for them to spend the time and money to move to the PS3 when their games are niche and everyone in Japan who wants them will buy them on the X360 anyway.

Actually, we'll be lucky to see any good shmup on the PS3. I own both systems, but I definitely don't keep my PS3 for the possibility of shmups. I use it mainly for a bluray player.

Totally agree EOJ, everyone I know that has both uses the PS3 as a bluray player first and a games console second.

If I could afford it I'd do the same :D

It looks like i will have to buy a 360. The only real reason i got a PS3 was for God of War in the future. I just get a little worried plunking down the cash for a 360 and it dying. BTW the RROD is caused by poor manufacturing. It mostly stems from poor soldering (lead free) due to the systems hi running temp.

I feel your pain, my friend, and I agree completely.
My PS3 is back in the box because I don't have any use for it. Even for blu-ray purposes...

How many quality titles do people need to be satisfied? I don't have many PS3 games yet (LittleBigPlanet and half a dozen PSN games) - I'd be interested in getting MGS4, DiRT, GRID, Valkyria Chronicles, Ratchet & Clank, Prince of Persia, Bioshock, CoD4, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, WipeOut HD, Bionic Commado Rearmed, Everyday Shooter etc...

I didn't buy a PS3 in the hope that I'd be playing a bunch of shmups on it. That would have been silly. Besides, I still have dozens of shmups on other systems that I haven't finished yet...

It'd be a better point if it weren't for the fact that very few of the named titles are exclusives.

I had a friend sell me one for $250 new. And this was about a year ago. I did my homework back then and the PS3 looked to have the most promising "updatability," being as it's basically Sony's flagship BluRay player running on Sony's own network.

Another good point indeed. I like GOW and thats one of my reasons for holding onto it. But with all the shmups on 360 that might change quick. I will wait when the verdict is in for the Cave ports to decide. I hope it goes well and everybody will get a shot at two fine games that would normally cost a premium. I hope the ports are solid and represent a true arcade experience with all the extras a console port bring. Fingers crossed

I'm really hoping so. There was this cool shooting dungeon crawler I saw a while back.

Yeah, just setup a Japanese PSN account and log onto it. You probably won't have any joy with your credit card though, so you'll need to buy a card with moon dollars on it. Which you can get off places like Play-Asia.

if cave had ps3 titles i would buy a ps3. Till then i can play the dated shumps on the ps2 that i just got two months ago.

I have a strong feeling we wont see the Cave shmups in the west for a long time, if ever. but I bought my 360 for other game types but I have still plunked down $$ on a few shmups anyway. Ikaruga (for the 3rd time) and a few other titles to fill out my xbla library.
