Do you smoke while playing?

Post by power UP »

Probably a stupid question, but I see so many ashtrays on the candycabs... Isn't it very distracting to handle a cigarette while playing?

I tend to smoke immediately after, though smoking while playing is possible. Before the smoking ban in the UK, it was pretty much mandatory to smoke while playing House of the Dead and Lethal Enforcers. Ah, memories...

if games are only 30-60 seconds with small pauses in between, it's pretty easy to have a smoke and play.

Some games I'll smoke while playing. If I'm playing a shmup I'm not very good at I will, reduces the stress of it and games only tend to last a minute or so.

DEFINATELY during RPGs. I smoked a lot during Infinite Undiscovery just because the game was so bad.

Oh god yeah. I remember chain smoking through Grandia when I was 16. You only need one finger to play an RPG, not even one hand.

Good times :D

I don't smoke- I just straight catch on fire. Skill.

Serious note- I don't smoke around my stuff- and for that reason I can't smoke around anybody else's.

I don't smoke either. And if I DID smoke, I wouldn't ever do it while playing a game.

Sometimes I might drink at D&B or Gameworks, but never around my (or anyone else's) home game equipment.

Thank God there's a smoking ban in my state, so I don't have to smell that shit at GW/D&B.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

I think I may be the only non smoker who is not bothered by the smell of smoke.

When I did smoke, I never did it inside my own home, and certainly never near any electronics. No reason to.

Then again, I was one of those weird smokers that hated the smell.

Never did when I used to be a smoker. I might have in an arcade that allowed smoking. These days I drink coffee whilst shmupping (on my tated tv in my own home).

No, I don't smoke period. Smoking is such a disgusting habit.

It's ridiculous that people still sell smokes next to milk in a dairy, in 2008.

mind you....now they arent allowed to display smokes or advertise them here.....they have to be in drawers or behind covers in stores.....

im so glad i quit......one of the best things i ever did :D

I usually smoke after a particularly stressful run, or when I meet a personal goal (1CC or personal high score or just a satisfying play)...I do drink often when I play...until it hinders my performance.

Yeah, definitely a good move.

I lived in an apartment with people who smoked .. all it took was 4 months and all my cloth/fabric stuff had a stale cig smell to them. My mattress is still being aired out on the balcony of my condo .. :p

I don't mind on console since you can pause. But SG or cabinet play is a no no. I find it relaxes me but I only get a puff after each stage and it seems a waste of money to have a single cigerette burn in front of you in the ashtray.

Personally, it was 80% mind over matter. Sure, I pulled that number out of my ass, but the principle is correct, at least in my case.

I failed three times in a short period, and on the fourth, I used the patch, but only for half the time it recommended. I didn't tell myself that I would quit smoking tomorrow, I put out a smoke halfway through and said "I'm done." Threw away the rest of the pack. Went out, bought the patches, and when I ran out, I didn't get to the store until the next day. When I was there, I realized I got through a day, so why buy more? Just go through a day at a time, then a week, and eventually I stopped thinking about it.

I replaced smoking with other habits - I drank more tea, more water, chewed more gum. Anything to alter the behavioral triggers of smoking. Keeping occupied. When I was idle, I smoked.

I take a giant bong rip every 100 points I make in Giga Wing.

Actually, I often drink coffee when I play (sip between stages) but apart from that, it's just shmupping.

When I quit smoking, going to bars was pretty easy. Going to the arcades was painful. I remember going to play some VF4 a few weeks after I had been off the cigarettes. I got the shakes. Had to leave in the middle of a match. True story.

I smoke less when playing games. I don't smoke at all or try not to when playing PSP, as it bugs me when it gets dirty.

Haha, good to know.

I've sort of lapsed into coffee-drinking again, but I'll be back to tea as soon as I run out.
