JP games which require little or no japanese language.
JP games which require little or no japanese language.
I was thinking of getting a JP 360 next year for the shmups. But is there anything else I need to purchace? I was thinking idolmaster as i hear good things but am I going to need to know JP for that? or is it possible to skim though it with knowing nothing of the language. which brought me to the title of the topic. Cross system not just 360.
I play various versions of Takio Drum master and its so much fun and you dont need to know any Japanese to play it once you get used to the menu.

Gussun Oyoyo on the Playstation is one of my favorite games. It's the only 32-bit console Bubble Bobble clone, and is done very well. It got a limited western (Europe only?) release, and is very cheap if you can actually find it, but I think the pricier JP version is easier to find. I think maybe you Euro guys have it on the PSN?
That's the only one that comes to mind. I've bought like one new Japanese game in the last 2 years, and it's painfully langauge-intensive.

The cult classic PSX import of Squaresoft's iS: internal section is presented in Japanese but one doesn't need to know any Japanese to grasp the simple concept of playing it. The various rumbles and vibrations when playing with the given 12 weapons + Eraser weapon shows off what the original Dual Shock controller could pull off. Tis a shame that Squaresoft USA didn't distribute it in the USA -- it would've done quite well for an experimental Tempest-inspired clone. ^_~
A sequel to internal section would be ace -- "internal section eternal" name sounds quite catchy. Square Enix should seriously consider doing one -- a HD version on the ol' PS3 would be awesome. ^_~
PC Engine Fan X! ^_~

There's no chance you'd be able to play the original iM@S without proficiency in the language, as a large portion of the game involves the Communication Events - while you could probably get through most of the Comm. Events through trial and error, or by using some of the small translations of select events floating around the internet, you'll lose most of the fun of the game this way as you learn a great deal about your idol's personality through these events, and successful communication provides your idol with "memories", which are powerups which can be used to help them through an audition. And there are loads of these events in the game.Lordstar wrote:I was thinking idolmaster as i hear good things but am I going to need to know JP for that? or is it possible to skim though it with knowing nothing of the language.
The pseudo-sequel iM@S Live For You! is a little easier for people without Japanese proficiency to play, as it is essentially the singing and dancing bits of the original game in one package, with added rhythm gameplay.

Ahahahaha wait, Oneechanbara's getting a US release? I heard something about this a few months ago but I thought the idea was canned. At least I was still under the impression that it wasn't coming out in the US after all. The game's so going to get slaughtered, because it looks and plays like a PS2 game. Oh and the "slash at the right time to make a damaging combo" Nero-esque thing? Annoying as hell.
Perhaps if this was 2006, sure.
