If you live in the US and love 5cm Per Second I would recommend picking up the DVD ASAP. ADV Films only put the DVD in print for three months (March to June of this year) and now it's becoming rare and going for crazy ebay prices as we speak.

Rightstuf still have copies of it in stock so I would recommend picking up a copy. Also the dub is very good as well.
It's great isn't it? I tracked down the Japanese limited edition for a good price and couldn't be happier... that is, until I get the Blu-Ray version. ^_-

By the way, for those who watched 5cm/sec and liked it: go watch Beyond the Clouds (which also goes by the title The Place Promised In Our Early Days outside of Japan). It's just as good. I hear Makoto Shinkai is planning another big movie for early 2009, which should be something to look forward to.

I need my English with DVDs. :P

I order The Place Promised In Our Early Days from ADV Films Thanksgiving sale which I picked it up for $7 new. I'm expecting the movie to be good. :)

I'll see Shinkai's new flick when it comes out, I like the director's stuff.

Speaking of new movies, I'm still waiting on Ninja Scroll 2 (I been waiting like forever).

I just started To Aru Majutsu no Index today, and it has skyrocketed to my favorite airing series right now, even over Toradora!.

I've heard good things about Soul Eater, but longer series like that tend to turn me off somewhat. Cardcaptor Sakura is an exception to that, since I like magical girl anime a lot more than actiony shounen anime.

I read volume 1 of Read Or Die a couple weeks ago. I like it, mainly because of the lead character.

Suehiro Maruo is prob my favourite Japanese comic book author. As far as I know, only one book has been officially translated into English (Ultra Gash Inferno), but I think it's out of print now. Never mind, there are scanlations of his stuff floating around the internet.

His artwork is absolutely amazing, falling somewhere between traditional Japanese art and German Expressionist film. His 1982 collection of shorter stories Das Ungetum der Rosenstck (sic) is probably the best place to start. Be warned though; it's strong stuff, and needs an open mind  But if you've been reading Hino, it should be nothing to worry about. He's not like Waita Uziga or anything

Rewatching the first two seasons of Jigoku Shoujo (Hell Girl) to catch up to the third season that's currently airing. Explores some dark themes, worth a watch if you like more unusual anime. Good stuff.

Actually, I'm familiar with Suehiro. I always find it annoying that the really unique manga artists never get their works published here in the west. It's a shame, really I would love to see some Shintaro Kago in English manga book format. Most of the stuff that I seem to take an interest in is usually not released here in the states, and if it is, then it's scarce. Even Waita Uziga has some interesting yet very fucked up stuff.

I tried several of the long series, but Soul Eater is by far the most action-filled. It's nowhere near Bleach, One Piece or Naruto. Fights that span less 3 to 15 minutes each (in contrast with 10 to 40+ minutes for said Naruto), crazy humor, and remarkably fluid animation. Though in terms of comedy, as far as long series go, I prefer Gintama.

I liked Kannagi when it first started, because it seemed to have a good storyline. About 5 episodes later, I got really confused and started wondering where the storyline went. Now I'm just watching it for a moe fix.

To Aru Majutsu no Index is easily the best series this season, in my opinion. However, episode 9 was so fantastic that episode 10 was almost a letdown, but that really opened up the opportunity for episode 11 to be great.

I watched 5 Centimeters per Second last night, and instantly went to RightStuf.com (as suggested) and ordered the DVD. It was amazing, and I loved every second of it. It's true though, the price is increasing. My final price was $31 (well, I did get the $5 priority shipping, so if I would have picked the economy shipping, it would have been $29, but whatever). Not a bad price at all! Totally worth it, especially since it won't be available for much longer!

So… having read ten volumes of the manga, I just watched the first episode of Blade of the Immortal.

…My god. They just couldn't make it worse. Not going to continue. The manga, on the other hand, is great.

So, I finally got around to watching all 70 episodes + 2 movies of Cardcaptor Sakura, and I'm kicking myself for waiting this long. It's such an excellent series, easily my new favorite.

Also, they're airing 2 short series based on The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, (Suzumiya Haruhi-chan no Yuuutsu and Nyoro~n Churuya-san). They're pretty dumb. Don't waste your time. :p

I had a friend recommend that I watch a series called Princess Tutu (he's really into masculine violent anime, like many of you guys are, so I was surprised he gave such a strong recommendation for it. Nevertheless, the files I downloaded of it were pretty low quality, so I ordered it online, the whole series, for $27, as well as the full Magic Knight Rayearth series (13 discs) for less than $38. Score!

Yeah, I'm looking forward to the new FMA as well, after losing interest in the original series.

There's going to be a Kobato (one of CLAMP's most recent series) anime adaptation this fall, and I'm really looking forward to it.

Funny, I was thinking about bumping this thread.

So after months of procrastination I finally watched Black Lagoon. While it's a nice show, I was kinda disappointed with it. Not as much action as I had hoped, and too much talk. And then enter Roberta, a maid who uses her umbrella as a shotgun, her briefcase as a fucking MACHINE GUN and behaves like a TERMINATOR !! I was asking for more action but goddamn that was ridiculous...my suspension of disbelief broke like a twig.

Again, it's a nice show, but when I heard it was about a group of mercenaries, I had this in mind.

Anyway, Death Note and Gurren Lagann are next on my 'to do' list.

I just finished watching Gankutsuou a couple weeks back. I have to say it was one of the better series I've seen so far. Anyone else seen it? No? I guess my taste is just weird >_>. I enjoy watching weird series like Serial Experiments Lain or Darker than Black or 80ies anime like LoGH or VOTOMS. Would anyone happen to have some good recommendations for someone with such weird taste like me?
Ruldra wrote:Anyway, Death Note and Gurren Lagann are next on my 'to do' list.
Death Note is quite great, specially the first arcs! It was the first anime I finished and propably the reason I got into them. Gurren lagann on the other hand... well I had to stop watching after 10 minutes or so, I guess it wasn't for me.

I had been watching Darker than Black lately. I should have finishing it, otherwise I would run out of tapes. But used the time to play Otomedius.

Animes from BONES are usually good. But I do like Emma, Nodame Cantabile, Maria Sama Ga Miteru better.

Nodame Cantabile was pretty good. I'm planning on watching Maria-sama ga Miteru soon, is it any good? (That is, in comparison to other yuri-based series like Strawberry Panic?)

i loved to see *lovestory anime/manga* like Pastel or I's back then.
Is there any other anime like this out there, and doesnt have an ugly childish girly look (with those huge eyes and stuff lol)?
Since I's had a pretty damn nice chick and the story was short (6 episodes) and p'tty warm-hearting

Maria-sama ga Miteru's novels would be better, as you might not fully understand the situation from just watching the anime. And yes, the series is good.

I also recommend The Story of Saiunkoku & The Twelve Kingdoms as well. Again the novels are better.[/b]
