Gradius III Arcade or Gradius III SNES Arcade difficulty

Post by captpain »

Which is harder?

And why?

I ought to add that this is to settle an argument, and I have my own ideas about this but I need some expert input.

List of things not as hard as clearing Gradius III arcade:
* Winning the lottery.
* Being elected president.
* Inventing a time machine, traveling back millions of years ago, and giving a T-Rex a noogie.

I thought Gradius III AC couldn't be that much harder than SNES until there were three times as many bullets on the screen plus some sand tigers or some shit and bam game was over halfway through stage one

God damn I hate Gradius III AC

Big Core mkIII is not that hard to beat. Wait until you see the infamous Moai boss.

I cannot pass stage 3

Too many bullets…

I try and try and i punish myself many times…

In all this time, I became master of stage one

I never knew of arcade Gradius III. I played the SNES game as a child and had fun and enjoyment as I was able to finish it… I played the PS2 Gradius III in 2000 and was rude awakening. But I torture myself and tried to become good and hit the wall at stage three…

Maoi boss is easier than St. 3 boss once you know what to do. St. 3 boss is a son of a bitch, there is memorization and slowdown needed to help beating it, also a certain optimism. I think the game is fun and all, but earning the satisfaction of 1cc'ing it... a wise man might say it's not worth it... a wise old GIII(arc)-torn man.

It would seriously be better if the cube rush wasn't there.

Oh aye, Gradius III AC is approximately 190000000000000% more difficult, but I also think it's a much more rewarding game to actually stick with and practice...

I'm guessing the version of GIII in the GIII&IV pack for PS2 is the Arcade one?

Noooo! Don't talk about Gradius III AC!
I got a very deep scar from it, whenever I hear that game's name, I have the urge to sit naked in a corner and
stare at the ceiling until someone comes & pokes me with a pointed stick...uh-oh it begins again...

Aye, mate. It's the best way to play it, I reckon. Certainly the most accessible way; the level of slowdown can be adjusted on the pause menu, affording more panicky chaps a better chance to practice the hairier sections (assuming they aren't just playing on a lower difficulty setting), hehe.

I'm stuck on level 7 in gradius III (arcade, PS2). This fire level is hell.

Alright, so what are the actual reasons that SNES on Arcade difficulty is easier than GIII Arcade...? All I've gotten is 'no slowdown' so far but I know that can't be it if someone says 190000000000000000000000000% more difficult :P

tl;dr, more bullets and more enemies from the very beginning. I can't imagine what later stages are like.

More bullets, less slowdown, and more enemies per level, not to mention some stages have a tighter space to maneuver in (ala bubble stage, and the bio stage later on, as well as the Moai stage), arcade version is harder, but IMO better suited to train you for the other Gradius games.

Once you know what to do, stage 3 boss is a hell lot more easier than the Moai boss. Dodging the reflecting lasers is actually very easy to do.

The level layouts and bosses are somewhat different, making the arcade version just a lot harder.

Tip on the Moai boss: Don't shoot the heads, fly around until it blows up after the timer. Or, use options and spread bombs. (If you can keep them up till that point. :? )

The escape after the lass boss sucks.

Gradius III arcade actually has a fair amount of slowdown. You need every bit of it.

They just did NOT want you beating the game. (chuckle)

That slowdown made both Gradius III and Tetris Attack easier at times.

That tunnel from Hell destroyed what little motivation I had left to "finish" the game.

That's where I always get stuck as well. I made it to the cube attack part maybe once or twice. Gradius is my favorite shmup series but Arcade III is just so brutal.

"Which color is more black?"

-WHITE

-BLACK

Yeah, once you're good at Gradius III arcade. your'e good at pretty much every Konami Hori shooter. Stage 3 of GIII arcade with full rank is pretty much multidirectional bullet hell already...

theres a doujin game on the SharpX68k in which you play the GIII cube rush only. makes for great practice. (I can proudly say ive beatin it :D )

Yep, that's exactly how it feels.

Arcade version, no question.

The arcade Gradius III is one of the toughest shmups made.
