Ha ha - I was looking at the first page thinking wtf, how come everyone is so young. But after looking at the date (2005) I realise there's not that big an age difference any more.

I'm 27, and this thread could do with a 2008 re-boot (in fact, such threads should have a yearly reboot or else it's a bit confusing!)

my first shmup was Tyrian 12 years ago. Second was Raptor. Third was 1942. In between i tried them all for at least 30 minutes. Still can`t beat any. I`m still young, got enough time

First shooter I remember playing a lot was Galaxian in the arcade's - I remember playing once all day on holiday till I (finally!) beat the high score.

I miss the arcades of old - plentiful and a fine way to rid a pocket full of 10p's
