Man trampled to death on Black Friday.

Post by Pixel_Outlaw »

A man was trampled to death today at a Wal*Mart by people seeking bargains on what has become to be known as "Black Friday". For those outside the US, people often shop the day after Thanksgiving because it is the time when stores put out their best Christmas deals.

I think it is sickning that these people killed a person just to get some Christmas deals for themselves and family. His family will always link his death to Christmas and it will be a horrible time of year for them. :(

I avoid Wal-Mart at all costs and this is just pathetic. Not at all surprising given the caliber of people I've seen in the Wal-Mart by my house. The thing that gets me about all these sales is very rarely is there anything good on sale. Its just a bunch of soccer mom idiots running out to buy something just to say they got it for cheap.

There were also two guys who shot each other at Toys R Us. It wasn't shopping related, but still, WTF.

Yeah, this makes me sad to be an American. People are absolutely disgusting. They would walk over a man being squished to death for a cheap TV or microwave. Walmart shoppers should burn in hell for this.... that's right, all of them.

I wouldn't be so quick to pass judgment on the individual shoppers. When a dense mob like that forms, an individual can't just decide to stop. The mob will keep pushing, and all you can really hope for is to find the path of least resistance. Sure, it's arguably a stupid idea to get into the mob in the first place, but I don't think anyone went in there expecting someone to die. The store should have implemented proper crowd control practices instead of just sitting back and letting the mob form, but that would have taken time and effort and money, and they have product to move.

Yeah, this news is terrible. This Black Friday stuff really has to stop. They should just do bargains online or something.

I would. When the store officials said that someone was killed and they were closing the store, many of those 'individual shoppers' flat out refused to leave and kept shopping because they had been waiting since the night before.

lawsuit!
Look, I can give out free plasma screens at my house. 1000's will come, but if somebody would get trampled to death it would be my fault.
Any store/anybody needs to calculate what measures to take.
Let me guess, a snoby new Wal-Mart store exec. who was told about dangers like these by personel, but ignored their calls.
Wal-Mart should pay through the nose to the immediate family involved.
Local shoppers should avoid this particular branch from now on.
Let me know how it continues in the future. I'm curious.

Try strolling inside a Wal-Mart on a regular weekend day...it is just fucking insane with the amount of people in your face. Get the fuck outta the way. It's best to visit Wal-Mart during the non-holiday shopping season and early in the morning/graveyard shift -- definitely a lot less customer interaction, of course. ^_~

Yeah, people lining up for those crazy and cheap-ass "Black Friday" deals have no regard and leave their trash wherever they are. Leave it to another person to clean it up. Common sense and courtesy to use a trash can helps and goes a long ways.

Sad to hear that someone died whilst in line at a local Wal-Mart...I've been inside the TGS and was caught in this huge mob of folks. At certain points, even my feet were not touching the ground...it was balls-to-the-walls jammed packed with bodies. It was slow going and I eventually made it from one gaming booth to another one. Not a fun situation to be in.

Furthermore... Fuck waiting in line for "black friday" deals.

Yeah I heard about that yesterday while I was slaving at circuit city. Strangely for us it wasn't that crazy. When I arrived at 3:45am (our doors were to open at 5:00am), there were only about 30 people in line. I was surprised at how small the line was. It did grow larger during the inbetween time though.
When the doors did open I expected madness, insanity and depravity but people were pretty damn orderly and calm. Fortunate for me I suppose  .

I always avoid shopping at walmart. The people who work there look beaten down with eyes that look like they had the soul sucked out of them. We say we send the poor to fight our wars but the reality is...we send them to walmart to have the most degrading low paid jobs that America allows.

This man had one of the most saddest jobs, even among walmart employees, the job of walmart "greeter." It's the job usually given to the mentally deficient or some senior fighting a losing battle against senility. He probably didn't know any better as his bosses sent him into a crowd they knew would tear him apart. Did they even care as his sad pathetic life took one final sad turn for the worse? I bet those assholes regarded his death the same way a pimp does when one of his "bitches" gets beaten to death. Frakkin monsters.

I hate Wal*Mart as much as the next guy, but judgment must also be placed on individuals who trampled the man. Honestly, it I were in the mob I would have tried to pull the guy off the floor. Even stampeding cattle will avoid hazards if they can. The fact that people stayed inside the store after being told to leave is just a hint of the mind set that trampled the man. Bargains and greed blinding them to pain and suffering. How stupid do you have to be to walk on top of a human and not realize what you are doing? Wal*Mart while being a crappy company to work for (I did for a year) is not truly at fault here. Ignorant stupid and greedy shoppers who will not leave a store after the registers shut down-are.

This further reinforces my distaste for big mobs of people.

I wonder what people were thinking when they realized they just RAN OVER somebody lying on the floor. "Oh shit, what was that? Nevermind, probably some retard. Must get cheap flatscreen!" I think even if somebody DID scream "Help!" or "Stop!", nobody would have reacted, as you´re probably too much in the rush of stomping your way to the "sweet deals". What adds to the problem is that since you´re anonymous in such a big mob, everybody thought that if THEY are the one to do something, somebody else will snag their laptop or iPod.

I hope every single one of them sits in front of their cheaply bought entertainment systems this christmas and each Blu-Ray they watch is tainted with the guilt of having trampled someone to death just to get their unnecessary luxury tat. It just perfectly demonstrates how our western christmas is turning into the complete opposite of what it´s supposed to be.

This is why I don't shop walmart. It seems all the ignorant assholes shop there.
