I know I have not posted much here but this news of these two games for 360 has sparked my interest in shmups once more. I also have a new 24in monitor that rotates really easily!
Anyway. I have two questions about this release. Will it have tate mode or will we be forced to use the widescreen format with the wallpaper?
I did some research and read through most of the pages of this thread but is there an official answer as to whether or not this will play on a US xbox or will we have to wait until it is actually released? Different websites have different information.
Thanks in advance!

Tate mode is a given.rancid3000 wrote:I know I have not posted much here but this news of these two games for 360 has sparked my interest in shmups once more. I also have a new 24in monitor that rotates really easily!

The game will be NTSC-J so you won't be able to play it. However, I've had it confirmed to me by 5PB people that Dodonpachi DOJ will be localized at some point so it seems like this will be as well.

Thank you for clearing that up for me. I just bought a US Region 360 yesterday but I might return it. I'll have to think about that one now that you say Dodonpachi will be localized for the US at some point. I'm more concerned with Ketsui because I've been dying to play it for a long time now. I've played DOJ tons on the PS2.adversity1 wrote:Tate mode is a given.rancid3000 wrote:I know I have not posted much here but this news of these two games for 360 has sparked my interest in shmups once more. Should I go for the Jap 360 or just wait it out?

I will definitely think about it. I know the Japan 360 can play almost any USgame but will it be able to download all of the US game updates and US xbox arcade games? I ordered it online so it hasn't even arrived at my house yet.thamasha69 wrote:I say go for the Japanese 360. I got one a few months ago for *cheap*. I don't think it is much money at all for the ability to play the games - Ketsui, DDP DOJ, Deathsmiles, RFA etc.

You can play Japanese region-locked software and watch NTSC-2 DVDs.rancid3000 wrote:Thanks! So what is different about owning a Japanese 360 from a US version?
Yes. If you set-up a standard Silver or Gold account, it will default to the region of your ISP.rancid3000 wrote:Can I still play on Live with US players using US games?

You'll only need a US account for in both cases - for the automatic patch updates to Japanese games and for the US Live stuff. A JPN account would be necessary if you wanted to download extra content for Japanese releases - the pre-order bonus outfit in Otomedius, for example, or the extra ships in Raiden IV.antron wrote:so do you need two accounts? do you put them in different profiles?nZero wrote:Yes, and yes.rancid3000 wrote:I will definitely think about it. We really could do with writing a FAQ on this stuff and stickying it.

I think that would be helpful. I tried to find something like that online but couldn't. A US owners guide to owning a Japanese 360 would be awesome especially on this board where many games are Japan only.E. I saw that but I'm trying to kill two birds with one stone here. I want to play DOJ and Ketsui and all of the US region games that I'm looking forward to. You also need the HD for the new dashboard and running games off the hard drive.EOJ wrote:They also have the Arcade console for $270 (which is all you need to play shmups).rancid3000 wrote: Where did you get this Japanese xbox for *cheap*? As it stands now I think I'm just going to keep my US region 360. I got a really good deal on it and it seems like DOJ and Ketsui will be coming to the US eventually. I already have DOJ for PS2 and I've waited a long time to play Ketsui so I might as well wait longer.
I'm going to make that Japanese Xbox FAQ in the hardware section when I get a chance.

there is also a guy on the US amazon.com marketplace selling older unused Japanese 20Gb consoles for $204 shipped. They show up, and go fast:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/ ... 292&sr=8-1
the one I got was made in 2005, was packed pretty well and shipped timely.

Oh wow. That's really good. I checked amazon but I found the blank page like in the link. I guess I'll have to keep an eye out for that. I could always keep the 360 I just bought and grab that one if possible then sell the one I have.antron wrote:there is also a guy on the US amazon.com marketplace selling older unused Japanese 20Gb consoles for $204 shipped. Ebay boxed HDMI model w/ 20gig HD and wireless controller for $41. It had a "stuck drive" as the seller wrote. It seemed that the tray mechanism skipped a tooth causing the tray to get caught on the entire laser assembly as it raises/lowers with the open/close motion of the drive tray. I just took the tray out of the drive. To play games I set them in the drive and then replace the top cover of the dvd drive w/ the magnetic spindle...turn the xbox on and it works perfect.Where did you get this Japanese xbox for *cheap*? Play asia has them for $350.
It is a minor inconvenience for the money I spent, plus I'm used to doing things this way as that's how I used to boot PS2 games via Cogswap before I got my debugger.

Lucky! I would definitely not mind going through that at all!thamasha69 wrote:Ebay boxed HDMI model w/ 20gig HD and wireless controller for $41. It had a "stuck drive" as the seller wrote. (How about adding some info for European players as well if you're at it
