guwange pcb sound issue ?/

Post by charlie chong »

i've just done a search but not much popped up .. i just recieved a guwange pcb but it seems to have sound issues

all seems fine at first but after about 5 seconds of playing everything gets louder and turns into a distorted garbled mess(especially when you deploy your spirit) i only played through the first level but it is very bad! i tested my esperade pcb straight after and no sound probs so it's definitely the guwange pcb and not my cab.. i'll test in my other cab later tonight but i don't think it will help

any ideas of quick fixes/repairs or will it have to go back to the seller?

thanks
charlie

You bought this one, right?

Looks like that cheap price was "too good to be true".

Either the seller was being shady about the sale by not disclosing the fault, or he buys PCBs in large quantities with the intent to resell for a profit. In which case he probably turned it on, saw the title screen, and turned it off considering it "tested working".

i done a bit more testing.. exactly the same on my other cab AND supergun! seems the fault is related to spirit use. as soon as you deploy the spirit the sound becomes totally louder and messed up and distorted.. i ven tried the sound test and the spirit and related sound effects were messed up there.. don't suppose burning a new set of epproms would help?? i know bloodlfowers had a guwange with messed up sound that he fixed but i'm not sure if his problem was as bad as this

Does the spirit use EVER sound right, for example when the board has just been powered on?

It may be a ROM/EPROM at fault but I doubt it somehow. Sounds more like an amplification issue or perhaps something in the circuit that is responsible for handling the sound samples.

Do you have a ROM (or EPROM) that's either numbered as U0462 or that has U0462 screened onto the board besides a ROM or EPROM?
