The worst shooter you've ever played.

Post by Strider77 »

Had to do it... I've read top 10 lists for everything a billion times. But I'm far more curious to see what the worst of the worst is.

Please let's really talk about the worst of the worst and not list thing like RSG or GV. Those are certainly not bad or the WORST.

My vote goes for a game called Legion on PC Engine CD. Your ship looked like a tube of lipstick and it only used the CDs audio for REALLY bad opening narratives that played while you were going through the stages. Some of them were quite humorous and they were in english.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Fairly sure that this has been done before.

I really cannot stand B Wings Arcade.
Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

I'm sure it's been done before but not anywhere near as much as the best of the best ect.

I'm really curious if anyone else has played Legion.

Merry Christmas. IBTL.
PS: Gyrodine. And that completely unbalanced Super Famicom beta game, whose name escapes me at the moment.

Personally, if i feel that a game is that bad I turn it off before I finish my run. But it would not be fair to list it with that little experience. So I guess that a list of the worst games is not an easy task unless you're masochistic, you are going to review it for some reason or if you are desperately trying to justify your latest purchase.

Sky Soldiers.
[It's actually not that bad, I haven't played many bad shmups]

[edit]
Actually, the worst was probably some crappy doujin shooter [usually gone within 30 seconds, so I don't have names].

I actually attempted to 1CC this a while ago. I can make it to the final stage on one life, but there the cheapness of the game just goes into overdrive and kills you instantly. Even practicing the section on emulator with save states proved absolutely fruitles. There's enemies that are invulnerable until they've fired their shots, insta-kill laser going through the level, walls that close (and kill the big hitbox-ship instantly)...
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

I'm gonna third Deep Blue.

EDIT: Although Silver Surfer (NES) is also a contender.

If demo's are allowed.
The capcom 1942 demo on psn. What a load of crok that was. Yet people are overly enthousiastic about it on this board? It's like a million times worst than the original 1942, which is decent.

Well Philosoma on the PS1 is pretty bad it's got an awful colour palette and boring repetitive gameplay.

Divine Sealing is the worst shooter I've played, not even the cheesyness of naked anime characters can save this simple, boring, and ugly shooter. I know the game is worth a small fortune if you've got a copy but it's almost worth buying just to smash it to pieces!!

All the better with a hefty sledgehammer...give it a good whack a few times and see some demolished bits of smashed plastic casing mingling with smashed PCB bits. ^_~

Excluding some awful doujin shooters, I think Protöthea takes the cake for me.

The Wii version is probably the worst thing I saw in ages (seriously, don't you ever dare to spend what they ask for it) and makes the PC one look like something 100 times better. In fact, I would still take the PC version over the Wii port despite things like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RoTQUkXzABM

I mean, it's a constant that you'll get shot offscreen and you have to blindly aim to take those enemies down before they even freaking appear!!! WTF.

The inertia of the ship in this game makes most euroschmukmups look like heaven.

Oh, seconding Sol Divide.

This is what I like to call an Amerishmup. Star wars, 'realism' and multi-directional scrolling/shooting. I guess the offscreen firing of the enemies is supposed to enhance the realism part. It's a mechanic that could work if there was either some consistency to the enemy patterns, turning into a memorizer, or else a radar or some other visual que to show incoming enemies. I have to say that watching that youtube video, the game looks a little bit fun. I like the fast shots of the enemies (part of the realism, no doubt). Of course, most games will look fun on youtube.

Ikaruga all the way. I don't know if it can be called a shooter; it's more of a puzzle game.
