Guy Plans to make a shmup on a Persistance of Vision display

Post by Pixel_Outlaw »

This guy is using a spinning low color display and says he plans to make a shmup like 1942 on it!

Looks like a system that could actually have a real "360" in the title. I think the community might like to support his thoughts for innovation and general shmupery.

Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

Woah. Too bad it only goes in about 180 degrees. A 360 degree wrapping shmup would be leet.

Actually he probably could. The lights are in position for the complete rotation it is just a matter of turning them on for the other 240 degrees. :D

Finally I can play Missile Defense 3D the way it was intended!

I grew up with this game!
Why do I have the feeling that this thread will get 3 more replies and then never hear anything about this technology? I'm pretty stoked!

Speaking of 3D - there's actually a very impressive stereoscopic version of Quake 1 out there in torrent land. The 3D effect is even better than in Trackmania and the cyan/red glasses are dirt cheap also.

I think the lights would need to point the other way, and you sit inside a giant spinning tube for that to work.

Cool, but too much circuitry. Would be easier to prototype and program with slip ring contacts and a stationary PC interface.
