I just ordered one, with Otomedius Gorgeous, Raiden Fighters Aces and The Last Remnant (Asian, English language version), and I was just wondering if I'm able to use my American Xbox Live account with a Japanese console?
Might be a silly question, but I'm just making sure.

Which is really annoying as I want all the extras that you can get for Raiden... Anyone know of a guide that will show you how to setup an Asian XBL account that will let you buy game extras etc?

Just create a jp account (you need a japanese address of course) and buy a jp points card on playasia. That's how I made it. You can access the downloadcontent from your all your accounts.
... but trust me: the extra ships in Raiden IV suck!
WTB: Arkanoid II Revenge Of Doh PCB, Outzone PCB, Fixeight PCB
I'm not really keen on making another account unless I HAVE to- will the updates for games (i.e. RF Aces) download if all I'm using is an American account?
You used to be able to add any credit card to a Japanese account, but they cut that out last year. The Japanese marketplace is sorely lacking, anyway, so I wouldn't recommend it.
It's different all over the world. Some places refuse to repair foreign consoles, but in my case I had my Japanese 360 (now in Khoa's hands) repaired. It took almost a month and was sent to NSW from Auckland to a repair centre. The console I received was the exact same one as what I had sent.

A lot of games which were created mainly for the Japanese and then later released in North America are region locked for their U.S. versions. The DoA games and Import Tuner Challenge (US ver of Shutokou Battle X) come to mind. Wartech is a notable exception.
