Shmup Hi-Score Table Websites

Post by spadgy »

Does anybody have a list of other websites, or even a link a list of websites that run hi-score tables for shmups? Obviously there are some for specific games and some for the genre and gaming in general. Perhaps if we get enough here we can turn this thread into a 'resource' such as Sven666's Superplay DVDs list , or Turrican's various threads of that nature.

And yes, I've searched here, but typing in things like 'Hi-score AND website' isn't getting me very far!

My heart will always be with this forum's hi-score tables, but I'd be interested to see how I rank elsewhere.

I think you already know the answer to that one. ^_~

There was a dude on these boards who not so long ago setup a dedicated site for shmup scores. Don't think it got off the ground though. (Typically, I deleted the bookmark a couple of days ago).

Do I? Yes, I guess I do - very low down. what motivated this thread's conception was wondering how my Raiden III Double Play compares internationally. Especially Score Attack Level 1.

Sorry Will, just messin'. Guess I should avoid advanced smilies; their power is way too mighty for these inexperienced hands. :)

I'll have a look for that link later - the site was a good idea, imo. Would have thought the hi-score charts for shmups.system11.org have the greatest number of participants though.*

There were at least two sites I can remember existing that did scoreboards, but I'll be damned if I can remember them.

You could try other forums to satisfy your curiosity:
http://shootmeup.be/stgfan/
http://forum.shmup.com/
http://arcade-extreme.forumfree.net/
Perhaps others floating around somewhere.

Some other gamimg forums (rllmuk, ntsc-uk etc...) have arcade scoreboards with some shmups, but they are almost never updated or used. This is pretty much the only place for english speakers to post scores.

If you want to test yourself against the worst that humanity has to offer, Twin Galaxies is for you

I just checked out Twin Galaxies for Raiden III - honestly, that site is such a bunch of cocks. They have so few scores for Raiden III (Except none for Double Play) any of us could get on there.

More on topic, I wish there was an international hi-score site in both Japanese and English...

I guess it's safe to assume this is the place you can find the best western scores.

I wonder if there's a site similar to this one for the asians. I'd love to see their scoreboards.

There is http://hk-stg.net/ - no idea if it has score listings on it though.

Their Strikers 1945 high score is 915,723. So much for 1-credit play there. At least II & 1999 reset the score- there is a legit score for II, but it's around 610K. Blah. They claim "continues are not allowed" on Street Fighter III NG, but there are multi-credit scores for that one.

About 2.5M on Raiden III? Sheesh. If I had a score that low, I'd not bother submitting it. The PAL region record hoses that one, coming in around 9.8M.

I don't take TG scores seriously for recent shmups. There is a good one for Sky Shark of about 4M though.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

I find it difficult to take any score site seriously when it has 18 pages dedicated to Rayman: Raving Rabbids and its sequel.
Weren't we planning a TG comedy score raid at some point? I'm personally thinking of beating the Batrider Advanced score by 1k. :p

Eighteen pages for Rayman RR? That is indeed ridiculous. Tetris in all its various versions doesn't even get a half of that.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

I'm sure you all know about the deal between TG and that Guinness Book Of Records: Videogame Edition or whatever it was called? Well, I had a friend working on the PR and marketing for that, and they were looking for new scores and new games for the next edition.

He knew I was into shmups, so said to me to submit a score. Of course I laughed at the suggestion, pointing to the fact I was nowhere near WR standard. "But if we don't get another submission you are," he said.

Now I know there's a case for the fact that somebody has to submit the first score, and whatever an official WR there could be a better one out there unregistered, but it is the Guinness Book Of Records, and they should have had a whole team out there verifying and researching, but no, they get TG on board.

TG's scores for very old games are usually ok with more than a few counterstops and some genuine marathon runs, but anything from the late 80s onwards is questionable at best. A lot of their shmup scores are so low even I could beat them, which says a lot. I could never submit a score to TG in good conscience knowing full well that there is a real WR out there which dwarfs my score.

very true.

i doubt there's anyone on this board who could get a 3.3m on pacman.

but twin galaxies should just call them TG Records, rather than World Records, and then there's no issue.

the reason why there are so many shit scores is partly because refereees can approve their own records. so there's probably a massive backlog they go through slowly, whilst instantaneously updating their own runs. some referees have over 2,000 records for example.

i'd be up for submitting some scores, as you can do so through kelly flewin, canadian referee, on PAL vhs tapes. although they wouldn't accept neo geo scores from me because my motherboard (and therefore the dipswitch settings are presented in) is japanese :? rumour has it that scores only count if they're done at Funspot though

A lot of the referee scores are placeholders to make it look like there are more people competing for records.

TG is the best of the best in web for arcade records in this range: 197x~1985.

decent status about 1986-1987...

after 1987..... in the middle of nowhere...

after 1989... none knowledge, none proficiency, zero. Special crazy rules, all leeching banned, no default settings, no japanese games, bah! Ridiculous....

For TG members: please, not call "WR" only scores submitted in TG, please watch the situation at the outside TG site (marp, arcadia, gamest, mame score, AIVA, jvrm....)

...so there really isn't anywhere else for English-speaking shmups fans. Not that I've posted any high scores, yet. They would be too embarrassing.
