Those of you who have Raiden II boards, a couple of questions:
a) Does your board have a AA Lithium battery on it?
b) If so, does it save the high scores okay?

For R-Typer,
Yes, I do have a Fabtek USA region Raiden II PCB and it does have the original factory installed 3.6v lithium battery. Unfortunately, the battery has since gone on to the afterlife and is no longer useful -- the high score saving functionality is gone but the PCB still remains playable. The high scores remain on the score board until powered off and they are lost forever. ^_~
IIRC, even if you do replace the dead battery on a Raiden II PCB, there is something that prevents it from working properly, according to the fourth page of the Japanese Raiden II Operator's manual. I wouldn't worry if the Raiden II PCB can save high scores or not. It's an arcade shmup classic that deserves a good home in every shmupper's PCB collection regardless of that minor issue. ^_~
There was another thread asking about this same question of Raiden II/Raiden DX PCBs having a back-up battery or not. You might want to check that one out for the 411 on that issue.

If you mean the thread in the hardware section - that was me getting a bit more technical on the issue (ie which chip was being backed up, etc).
Thought it worth posting in this chat section just to see who has Raiden II boards and whether they have batteries that actually did anything (unlike mine!).

I'm sure when the battery was new and fresh, the high score saving worked like a charm.R-Typer wrote:If you mean the thread in the hardware section - that was me getting a bit more technical on the issue (ie which chip was being backed up, etc).

Unless another fellow shmupper does have a Raiden II PCB that does save high scores (even after all those years since 1993), it's interesting to see if such a PCB could be revived after all those years. That would stir up some Raiden II PCB fans asking how it was done and if such a service could be performed to revive theirs. ^_~
Seibu Kaihatsu knew what they were doing when using their own properity battery back-up setup on the Raiden II/Raiden DX PCBs.

Indeed, but as you mentioned in the other thread, some boards don't save the high scores even with the battery added.PC Engine Fan X! wrote: I'm sure when the battery was new and fresh, the high score saving worked like a charm.
Do you mean revive the high score saving or the board in general? If the latter then they can often be revived. The Raiden II that I have was very faulty when I got it and, seeing as I repair arcade boards for a living, I was able to get it working again. The only major problem is when a custom chip dies as you can only get replacements off other boards of the same type ..........Unless another fellow shmupper does have a Raiden II PCB that does save high scores (even after all those years since 1993), it's interesting to see if such a PCB could be revived after all those years. What I'm curious to know is how is their high score battery backup system so special? I mean, if the board comes without a battery yet there is provision for a battery (ie the battery connector) then why won't adding a battery work ......... this is why I'd like to know who else here has a Raiden II board.
