What the hell, my friend...
What the hell, my friend...
...is way too good at shmups. I'm better than him at everything in the world except Quake III (which I don't play) and shmups. The kid just sees that shit, is instantly comfortable with the hitbox and the hitboxes of the bullets, easily predicts interlacing patterns that are just mush to my eyes, and can get to the TLB of Blue Wish Resurrection. He's been playing the game for, what, 3 days? 4 days? I'm totally glad and excited that I now have a friend who's truly into shmups, but seriously, WHAT THE FUCK =P

And I bet you already saw yourself watching him struggle and die and you´d say "Oh come on, it´s not THAT bad for someone who is just starting out. With a lot of training you´ll someday get where I am!"
Getting beaten by people who just seem to be naturally talented and do stuff seemingly effortless while you try and try and not really get anywhere always hurts. Have you seen that Simpsons episode where Lisa and Bart play at that jazzclub and Bart completely outshines Lisa in a music genre he can´t even pronounce right? That´s some basic human tragedy right there.

You're damn right, Frederik =) It was exactly that way with everything from Counter-Strike to the ACT to being a dick (he's learning well...the Force is strong with this one...), and he totally surprised me on this (it was a lot of fun lauding my 31 over his 27, especially 'cause we're on an even field: both slackers =P).Frederik wrote:And I bet you already saw yourself watching him struggle and die and you´d say "Oh come on, it´s not THAT bad for someone who is just starting out. However, I'm pretty certain that he does so well in part because he's so damn competitive. I'm never competive with him, I never needed to be, but he's one ferocious young black man, that he is (oro?). He ranted for weeks/months about how he wanted to kick my ass on the ACT, and I was just like "go read a book" (I took the test last year). Needless to say, all he did was rant.
I also noticed that I when I got home and turned on my computer and played a credit or two fullscreen, then switched to windowed, I played better. I think I can see the whole field easier and it all seems sharper (maybe I need glasses...My vision ain't as great as it was...). I put a few more credits in and improved on all of 'em, which was nice. Maybe I'll play it again tonight. I gotta start caring about shit so I can get all competitive-like, too.
I forgot something, I just know it. I'm hanging out in the break room because I don't want to go home and one of my friends won't pick up his phone so I can pick him up on the way. I'm talking to kids and drinking hot chocolate. Fun.

ahhh... your idiocy intrigues me.
oh lord. sounds like jealousy to me young padawan. it sounds like your beginning to realize that i may be approching your level, soon to surpass it. you may be better than me at everything in life (except for Q3 and shumps as you have recognized), but this will not last too long.

HAHAHA yeah it will, dumbass =P And as soon as I figure out how to concentrate like you do the only thing you'll have on me is something I could not care any less about =) And learn some grammar/conventions.wast3lanD wrote:oh lord. sounds like jealousy to me young padawan. it sounds like your beginning to realize that i may be approching your level, soon to surpass it. you may be better than me at everything in life (except for Q3 and shumps as you have recognized), but this will not last too long.
Eh, everyone has their strengths and weaknesses =)
I'm better than my friends at just about all things videogame, but one beats me up in puzzle games, one is about unstoppable in RTS games, and another beats me so handily at rhythmn games that it's embarassing.
I'm still untouchable in fighters and shmups though (at least amongst my friends -_^); even though I personally feel shmups are a weakpoint for me, none of my friends play them nearly as much as I do.

I have absolutely no idea how to play fighting games, and get obliterated by my friends every single time I play with them.Arvandor wrote:Eh, everyone has their strengths and weaknesses =)

I am always well beyond them in every other genre (save one friend who plays RTSes a lot, though if I practice a game I can be competitive with him -- but he'll still have an edge).
