Well...finally got my copy (which I ordered after I heard of this latest patch coming). Of the raiden games...I've only played the early ones (1, 2, DX)..and a some Raiden 3 (which I wasn't fond of). While I'm liking this so far...I've got to say I'm feeling a little overwhelmed with all they've stuffed into this collection with this being my first jump into the Fighters series. While I'm having fun, i wish I knew more about the series as well as the available options.

Does anyone have an opinion on which of the three games would be best to start with (what's the general concensus on which is best)? Also, which options should I choose to keep it as close as possible to arcade specs?

I also am curious what screens setting would get me closest to arcade (I mentioned this one in a previous post) for a 58" 1080p set?

(I'm sure I'll have more questions later as I play more ... with this odd medaling system and all (and since there isn't much in terms complete info in english on gameplay)but right now, I think what I asked above is enough....Being so overwhelmed has never been so sweet =p )

A lot of people will probably say start with RF2 (and in many respects I'd agree), but RF1 is probably the better starting platform in my opinion, because RF2 took what was done in RF1 and sped it up a bit, increased the scoring potential, and increased the difficulty a lot. RF1 will give you a good idea of what to expect from the two following games, and is much gentler in comparison.

RFJ is a nightmare for the uninitiated ^_-

Also, a bit of RF series scoring discussion at namakoHQ.

I honestly had a harder time getting into RF1 scoring because it's so much more difficult to get max medals on the first stage. Plus, RFJ is so fast and CooL!

RF2 all the way baby, as a beginner it will hit you in the face.. HARD.. but stick with it and youll get the hang of it, nothing beats when the millions just start pouring in on the train stage 8)
the destruction of everything, is the beginning of something new. your whole world is on fire, and soon, you'll be too..

Yep, there are a bunch more display options to toy around with, scanlines included - it's got to be one of the most "tweakable" shmup releases ever after these updates.
wow.... if I'm ever hard up for cash i'd consider replacing my PCBs with this now with the scanline effect. So it looks and plays perfect now? Anything noteworthy as far as differences?
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

of course you've still got the framerate conversion from 54 to 60Hz. You can play it in native 60Hz (speed up by 11%) or you can choose between three different 54Hz->60Hz options. (Frame Blending's probably the best).

This is pretty bothersome because if I don't get the first stage down *perfectly*, I reset. It's a bad habit but I don't feel like continuing with the game if I mess the first stage up.

Thanks, that thread has some great info. I understand the scoring mechanic a bit better now.

Another question if anyone knows. What is "response" for in the control options?

These shmups look awesome and it's to bad that it isn't getting a US release. I would buy the pcbs but they are to expensive to afford. :(

When you launch the game it tell you that there is an update (in english). Just choose yes to update and let it do its thing. That how it does it on my Jap 360 and my UK XBL account (and I am in the UK).

Works the same way in on a JP system in the USA, it happens pretty much automatically, no worries.

I really like the option to install games now to the HDD of the XBOX360.
Playing RFJ without the constant DVD-noise is a pleasant change

I'm thinking about nudging my friends to pool together to get me a Japanese 360 Arcade for my 30th birthday. I just want to make sure I've got all the shmups out or coming out for it so I know it's going to be REALLY worth it (the Cave trio alone is enough for me, but I know those are rumored for a US release so I wanted a broader list).

I've got DoDonPachi Dai Ou Jou, Ketsui, Death Smiles, Raiden IV, Raiden Fighters Collection and Otomedius Gorgeous off the top of my head.

There's also Shikigami No Shiro III and the upcoming Shooting Love 200X.

I am noticing quite a few differences in score attack vs regular modes. Does anyone have specifics on this? My biggest thing is the time...what increases it? It would also be nice to know more about how to locate the extra bonuses in this mode

Also, what is FULL RUN mode

You may have noticed that in RFJ you reach different stages depending on your gaming performance. In Full Run mode you can play all the available stages one after another.

Thanks..I was guessing (hoping) that's what it was...that's a nice feature since once you get some consistency in your run, you would be less likely to see some of the "lower ranked" stages.

Froze up on me during Raiden Fighters 2, it was just an easy run, but still frustrating. Just applied the last update. Has this happened to anyone else?

Wow, they even included scanlines, nice. Maybe I should sell/trade my U.S. 360 towards a mod (good idea?) or JP box.

You probably shouldn't sell/trade your 360 for a mod because no one has cracked the region coding yet. But trading it for a NTSC/J 360? All depends. I believe I would rather have both of them, if only for original Xbox b/c.

Yep. This lock-up was included with the last patch (that added the scan-line options). Gulti/Success/Seibu and whoever the hell-else worked on this comp are currently trying to fix the problem.

You can D/L the update to your memory card. Must updates are only a couple a hundred k or so. They literally take 2 or 3 seconds to download.

Logged in on this game today and low and behold, there is another update. Not sure what it includes but I assume it has something to do with the RF2 freeze bug. Not sure if there is anything else.

Gladly they didn't clear the leaderboards this time.

Does anyone know how to trigger the second miclus on the beach in stage 5 (RF2)?
