Even if you get past the slidy controls and level design, most of them have a scoring system about as deep as a puddle. So, probabally not. :P

According to my latest EGM, some of them play US shmups! The world leader for one of the Geometry Wars modes resides in Japan. (Big surprise.)

Some of the top players on the Space Giraffe leaderboards are Japanese so I'd guess the answer is yes.
