London Meet, Spring '09 (May 1st - 3rd )

As usual, the idea is put up early to gauge interest here first, and if there's plenty of interest, posts will be made at Arcade Extreme and ikaruga.co.uk, whom had attendees for the past few big meets. With the thread opened early, it gives everyone time to arrange time, money, and accommodation in advance.

So how about it, lads? Any interest?

If boards are needed before then, I can send them down to someone (DEL?). I don't have much though, just Pork, Pink, Ibara, Brave Blade, Guwange, XEXEX JPN, and Batrider JPN-A, of which I suspect most of the locals have already got.

I'll definitely be bringing my DS and PSP down, though.

Just my 2 cents, but there's a big shmup event yet unannounced outside of the French forums that is happening in France exactly on that week end (although the date isn't set in stone yet, it will probably be that week end because the 13th is a day off for everyone). It takes place in a gamecenter in Toulouse, many people will be attending and there will be Major Hardware (around 15 astro and egret III cabs all running shmups, most certainly including the last Caves such as Mushi Futari Black Label and DDP DaiFuKKatsu, perhaps even in more than 1 cab each, also Street Fighter IV and some rythm games in dedicated cabinets, all of this in freeplay, entry being free for foreigners). In case some of you guys would want to attend that, I just thought you might want to know in advance so you can plan ahead consequently and maybe make this London Meet at a different date.

Besides, I wouldn't mind attending a London Meet again myself :p !

Somehow missed this thread. Of course I'll be there, and I can bring my Supergun as I'm one of those living closer to the arcade...

I might even be able to provide a sofa for the night to one of you if that helps (and a floor for another!), and that's certainly an offer I can give to those of you I've met a meets before and my Royale team mates and the like.

It is tentative at the moment, but if there is enough interest for a big meet for this set of dates, then we can go ahead and make it a definite time. I'm coming down for that weekend regardless, and will be floating around the city doing various things.

Indeed it does, which is why these dates are tentative at the moment. If everyone wants to rearrange to fit in this thing in France, then they are free to - as I said, I'm coming down for this weekend regardless, and will be popping in to Casino during the weekend to say hi; however due to my schedule I can't make any international trips until the summer, and I have a big trip planned for then anyway (backpacking around Italy for 20 days with friends).

Lets get some discussion going first and see what everyone who is interested wants to do. Better to kick-start it early and get it out of the way, so people can sort out travel and accommodation. ^_-

Well, I'm absolutely flexible, and unlikely to be able to afford France, so any weekend suits me... which is of no real help at all is it? We need some people who can only do set dates...

It would certainly be a shame for the London meet to be smaller because people are over in France.

In fact, who is going to France who would otherwise be coming to London? If it's a lot of people, we need to re-think the proposed date at Casino, but perhaps the two events won't effect each other? Oh... although we already know PROMETHEUS might try attending both if they are at different times...

I would like to be here this time at the Casino. If the meet is at se same date as in France, I think I'll prefer to be at Toulouse.

Otherwise, we can still ask the owner of the game center to set another date.

I haven't talked to them about it yet, but for example it's possible some of the Italian guys who sometimes come to London Meets would be interested in coming to Toulouse (LUN, NEV, BR1, JCK, Fontaz attended London Meets before). There's me and Fu who could be interested in coming to London. Maybe some other French people, don't know.

That said, we're already quite a big bunch of French people interested in the Toulouse event, and if we're too numerous maybe the organizer who owns the gamecenter won't want to invite too many foreigners (there are 15 cabs all right, but not 50! ^^). So we'll have to wait a little bit to see how this develops I guess.

Well - I think we certainly want you guys here - I think it's fair to say our meet won't get overrun (though we've had some good number in the past, or at least the one 'main' London meet I went to.

That said, the situation is interesting. Of course you get nothing for months and then all of a sudden two big events in the same week... Oh well. I can't guarantee a single damn thing because of the usual problem though, but I'll consider both events for sure. One thing that is almost sure for italian players is attending Super Versus Battle in "early 2009" (???). A lot of stuff, maybe too much...

Gonna need some concrete information on what's going on in France before we think about rearranging the London Meet, just in case the date we think about rearranging to ends up being the weekend the guys in France have their meet. ^_-

And yeah, I might be around Venice for a few days during my summer trip, as one of my mates wants to see the place, and I want to see it again. Not sure I can convince them to stop off at an arcade for a day, though. (￣▽￣)

I'm not sure he'll be able to give more at the moment though, because this event is still in preparation, much like the London Meet we're talking about here.

Finally some news, after considering moving the date of the French event, it was decided the best date for it was definitely April 11 evening plus all of April 12 (that's saturday night and all sunday). And we'd be glad to have foreigners !

is this that big anime-fair type thing that ive seen pics from ? or a separate event only focusing on arcades/shmups ?

It is a separate event.

That big anime convention you saw pictures of was Japan Expo in Paris. It takes place every year and most of the time Neo Arcadia arrange a large stand there with many arcade games including STGs. Last year, 4 cabs and 2 superguns were running STGs including Mushihimesama Futari BL, Death Smiles, Ketsui, DDP Daifukkatsu, Espgaluda 2, Ketsui and some other non Cave games. It was very nice to attend.

This event we're talking about here takes place in Toulouse in a game center launched recently by a Neo Arcadia member, and is a STG focused event. It should run STGs on up to 15 cabs, with the other dedicated cabs probably available and running games such as Street Fighter IV, BeatMania something and more. Compared to the anime convention, it is better for a STG player because there are more games, you will have to wait much less to play because there won't be anime folks wandering around trying the games, you can meet many STG players, and there will probably be some tournaments or demos by good players displayed on a large screen with a projector. Also entry is free for foreigners, whereas Japan Expo costs about 12€ per day.

I'll give you more details about the games available and stuff whenever Wovou announces them, but you can count on the latest Caves to be playable and a lot of people to meet. I'll make a separate thread soon just to announce the thing more clearly to everyone. Hope some foreigners will join ;]
