A friend of mine who worked at an Olive Garden in Philadelphia said he regularly had customers who ordered "Scrimps portfolio" instead of "Seafood portofino". That is just tragically bad.

Turkish immigrant ghetto speak in Germany.

That guy is a comedian, btw, but he sounds VERY authentic (unlike a lot of other comedians in german TV).

one of my mates in Mongolian he does not rap though. He has this thick American accent which is a novelty in its own right but then his mum calls he and he was scream in Mongolian to her and its quite amusing as mongolian is really unique.

I once met a spaniard in Spain (duh), who quite funnily talked about Portuguese and Italian compared to Spanish. Of course, being rather proud (pedantic) he went on saying that Italian is pretty much Medieval Spanish, and Portuguese is Spanish badly spoken.

I hate to admit it, but the guy was a bit right. They DO sound like that! :)

Why is no one like Vietnamese?

*shrug*

Oh well.

I does sound kind of weird I guess… especially when my mother get on a roll. She can talk for hours on telephone and go from whispering to shouting in different octave in matter of seconds…

Also, I'm from Brazil, so... I 'decipher' lots of it everyday. lol

It's natural that someone from Portugal would have trouble deciphering "our" portuguese in the same way we have deciphering theirs. This doesn't mean brazilian portuguese is uglier or more complicated, nor does what I said in my previous post mean their one is... the two are just different, and one has every right to not like the sound of either of them.

But just so you understand my point, imagine someone reading your post... like this:

That's why I find it so ugly. Not only portuguese, most languages need the vowels to be pronnounced to make any sense. Without them it just sounds plain wrong to me. >_>

Any form of Chinese is nuts because part of it involves being as loud as possible because there's so many freaking voices to speak over. The things you have to do just to get a snack...

Same with Vietnamese, except you hear sudden deep drops and quick rises often thanks to the pronunciation.

But none of them beat Counter Strike/Massively Multiplayer Role Playing Game computer speech in terms of stupidity and ugliness.

i meant no offense....i was refering to the way its spoken...very fast, and very little pausing, making it even harder to pick out words...even to someone who speaks a very similar language

i dont think its ugly at all....

my best friend as a kid was from brazil....you should have heard his mother when she was angry.....yikes

Whenever I have to work in the IV room, one of the other techs is ALWAYS playing some of that vietamese pop music or whatever its called. What makes it even worse is sometimes its vietamese variations of popular american songs. You know that song Love in Da Club? WELL I GET TO HEAR THE VIET VERSION EVERY FRICKIN MONDAY. It wouldn't be so bad, but we are all garbed up and can't walk out whenever we want so i'm stuck back there with him and his music. We made an agreement, three hours of my shit, three hours of his. I have nothing against Vietamese people or whathaveyou, but vietamese pop is hard to take for 8 hours in a tiny vaccuum sealed room.

It's not ugly, but German sounds scary to me. Russian on the other hand, sounds a bit creepy, but it has this "musicality" to it, that I find fascinating.

A winner is you. I LOVE and adore all of those languages. I actually speak a lot of Welsh, and work with Cymuned. I do graphic design for them (not a lot of it there at the moment aside from their updated logo.)

One of my bits of work here too (just the logo/banner graphic on top:)

The worst sounding are probably some Arabic languages and Dutch. They include these really harsh RSH-throat phones. Every time my dutch ex-boss was talking Dutch in phone, he later apologized to nearby people: "I'm sorry, I know it's a terrible language" =D German sounds bad in a good way, but it's a bitch to pronounce (I couldn't get an alarm clock from a shop because I just couldn't pronounce "uhr" in a way that would have appeased the cashier...)

Some African languages sound really cool and some plain intolerable, can't really identify them though. The stupidest sounding languages so far are probably Swedish and Norwegian, they're just pronounced in such a gay way most of the time.
Estonian gives me headache, it sounds like Finnish which has been shot to pieces (some estonians say Finnish sounds like a child is trying to speak Estonian :)

I used to hate the sound of Turkish but now that I've been watching a lot of their old movies it's starting to sound much better, a bit like Russian, first it sounded obnoxious but then I started to pay attention to the kind of cool and melodramatic way it's pronounced.

American English is nice because it's crystal clear, very easy to understand, unlike most UK English and its horrible, incomprehensible bastardisations like Cockney. Irish is cool, and Australian is way cool.

Japanese sounds usually good, so does Cantonese, Mandarin.. not so much. Thai language is very beautiful, and Korean is a mixed bag, don't love it, don't hate it.

Italian is just beautiful, French too, Spanish less so, but still sounds quite ok and easy to comprehend. Portuguese Portuguese is tougher, sounds more messed up. Brazilian Portuguese sounds cooler, but even more messed up now that I'm trying to learn it by myself (www.brazilianportuguesepod.com), since I'm going to Rio for two weeks in February and would want to be able to communicate too. Maybe I'll just keep repeating "tudo bem, tudo bem"..

Hmm what else.. Klingon is a crime against ears, Latin and Greek cool, Jamaican English the coolest, Hindi and Indian English sound very.. entertaining ;)
Before Pope John Paul died he decreed that Aliens were also GOD's creatures and we should treat them with respect.
