I spent a weekend with this game a while back whe I first got it. There's a part early on in the game where a bunch of enemies all form up in a line. Taking the entire line out with a powershot it just sweet.

I have to admit that was my first reaction about 5 years ago when I rented the Capcom collection, and again when Capcom released the game for free at this anniversary. But after having played the 19.. games for about a week, looking at Vulgus became quite a different experience. Certain similarlities were obvious, but some of the things I didn´t like in 1942 and the others were actually done better in the older game. For example, I really dig the fact there are no stage intermissions and no power-ups, making death much more bearable. I also like the depth of the scoring system, something I´d never have guessed to be present in such an old game. Shooting a line of enemies with the power shot is just the most basic way to score - shooting all but one enemy in a formation with the power shot and hitting the last one with the regular weapon is the way to maximize score, but obviously much harder to pull off.I've been in love with this game for a long time. I'm honestly surprised so many people are digging it now, I always figured this was one people would dump on for some reason.
It's just not worth playing when the sound is so horrible.CMoon wrote:I've been in love with this game for a long time. I'm honestly surprised so many people are digging it now, I always figured this was one people would dump on for some reason.
in his second post, raiden wrote:shorter than I expected. If you count the star background intermissions as stage changes, it´s only 4 stages long. Scrolling doesn´t even stop then, so you might have looped it already without recognizing - to make sure, you can watch out for a Capcom logo on the left side embedded into the landscape. .How long is the whole game?

Beat you down about that? No, I don't believe that has been covered.dave4shmups wrote:OK I didn't notice that..FRIGGIN' HANG ME! Sheesh!
And that link downloads the installer, which isn't working on my PC because of some nonsense about WindowsCE. I could use some help here, unless someone wants to beat me down about that, too! :?
I can't install Vulgus because my PC is asking for somekind of WinCE device to be inserted, and I have no idea what that means.incognoscente wrote:Beat you down about that? No, I don't believe that has been covered.dave4shmups wrote:OK I didn't notice that..FRIGGIN' HANG ME! Sheesh!

In order:
raiden posts "If you count the star background intermissions as stage changes, it´s only 4 stages long." The thread is long, I can see skipping some of the "that link is dead" posts, etc.. But that post from raiden is only the 4th post here.
You ask in a post: "BTW, how many levels does Vulgus have?" A simple request.
raiden replies: "To the subject of number of levels, read the previous posts, please." A simple response, suggesting that the answer is above. Not specifically in the fourth post, but there.
Your response: "I DID Raiden, and there is NO mention of the number of levels." and then proceed to compare raiden's behavior to your mother's.
My response was quoting the 4th post, then adding bold to the relevant information ("... it's only 4 stages long"). Bolded didn't make the information stand out noticeably in the quote field so I made it larger without wanting to spend time to find the perfect middle ground of noticeable-without-being-large-enough-to-look-obnoxious.
I've given you reponses in other threads which required you to read between the lines or do a little work yourself and you forthright ignored them. I decided to make this one less easy to slip your attention. Apparently it worked. You have the information you sought--I'm happy enough.
