PC98 Emulators

Post by Momijitsuki »

I need a better one. The one I've been using doesn't work very well. Bullets and sprites tend to flicker to the point where I can't see what's going on with the one I'm using.

Any suggestions, please?

Anex86 is what I'm using. In Touhou 5: Mystic Square, stage 2 is really hard to see, and the bullets when Shinki (the final boss) spreads her wings, all the way to the end of the battle flicker a lot, and it's hard to keep track of them. I went in with 5 lives, and died before the end. If I could see what I was doing, that wouldn't be an issue.

Thanks ZA. T98 works so much better. I couldn't get Neko Project to work though. I'm not exactly fluent in gibberish. :p

Imo Neko Project II is the best there is, should be a english version floating around the net somewhere too.

If you already have T98 you can stick with it - it's very good & supports cd isos.

Anex86 is just too outdated now...

Apparently, through a search at the Shrinemaiden forums, Neko Project simply doesn't support Toehoe PC-98 games...

Does it work well on TC-98? You're right about the flickering, it drives me mad but, sadly, Anex runs full speed without further issues. I even got the japanese characters to show up.

edit: Actually, scratch that. TC-98 work ten times better...

Did the PC-98 games incorporate an intended slowdown when bullets covered the entire screen? I'm getting a neat Cave-like effect when playing Mystic Square... unless this is a slowdown due to mis-configuration of the emu I don't recall Anex ever applying slowdown.

Doesn't seem like it. There are a bunch of sections in LLS where the screen fills up but it doesn't slow down noticeably. I'll have to playthrough it again to make sure, I tend to miss a lot of things when I focus too much.

Well, I tested Mystic Square so far, gotta try LLS but the lack of flickering is a welcomed feeling. Maybe I'll have to adjust some things if the emu is slowing down given Anex ran like a rocket on steroids.

I thought it was a bit too suspicious. I mean, it would slow down when Alice release big barrages in a pretty Cave way but then speed up almost instantly, that really reminded me of some moments in Mushihime. But, yeah, perhaps I touched the wrong option

That explains why my Mac-using friend couldn't make it work with the Touhou games...

Are there any other Mac-compatible ones I can tell him about? His computer can't handle dual-booting, so that's out of the question.

Steam Hearts isn't a bad game. People knock stuff with Hentai too hard (or not hard enough)

How do you run PC9801 games on a PC9821? When I tried, I always got compatibility issues.

That comes down to configuration. Once I had Anex86 setup according to the guide on shrinemaiden.org the sound sync problems went away.

Your parents aren't going to approve, you know (unless interest in futa catgirls is part of normal adolescence in Finland).
