Na not really. I mean I read all kinds of shit on the internet and I play every game at least once, but I probably don't have half the knowledge of the average shmups.com nerd.professor ganson wrote:You might suck at shmups and still have specialist knowledge of some type of shmup. Or maybe a series or even just one shmup, knowing all sorts of trivia, for example.ChurchOfSolipsism wrote:I suck at all kinds of games & shooters.
Shooters where you have to learn a lot of things by heart. Ikaruga and Battle Garegga come to my mind. I'm devoted to both, deeply... Ikaruga till 2005 and Garegga is still going on. I just love to crawl deeper and deeper in tactics untill I found the perfect way to score a specific situation. I'm far away from perfect though.
I mostly play shooters for consoles (Famicom, Mega Drive) and Toaplan, Raizing + CAVE stuff (everything before Ibara/Mushihimesama).
What I really hate are Psikyo-shooters. No space for any imagination. Though I love memorizing stuff as I stated before, Psikyo is too much of that. I don't like their enemy/bullet and general graphics neither.

Hello all
Long time lurker, first time poster
I`m an EoSD specialist. That and Esp.Ra.De are the only shmups i played more than 4 hours. I prolly spent round 30 hours on EoSD and still can`t 1cc on normal, i ussually get beaten at the beggining of stage 5 so i spose that makes me a bad player
Even if i played all mame shumps, all Dreamcast shmups, all PS2 shmups and all doujin that i could find i am still bad at them.
I mostly enjoy bullet heavy games with small hitbox and slow bullets. I love mushihimesama on PS2 and hate Ibara.
EDIT: I also made it to the 5th level of Cho Ren Sha 68k on the second try on default settings but the 3rd time i was not able to get to lvl3 anymore. It was just a moment of inspiration.

I'm more of a generalist myself...I'll play any shmup you throw at me, while not going too deep on any of them. As a result, I can only pull off average scores.
That said, I have a deep respect for people who can focus on a single game for months or even years. All their dedication is shown with scores that crushes everybody else around here (tviks and Gradius, YCW and RJF, KET and Garegga, shinobi and RSG, Wen and Strikers 1999 etc).

well raizing games for me hold my interest infinitely , especially ibara now , the larger hitbox and complex scoring systems i find give me such a rush when your heading to beat your personal record , i think people new to shmups tend to hate raizing games because there's generally no luck with dodging and nthey appear brutal etc , i actually had a friend play mushi on maniac recently for the first time and totally fluke all the way to stage 3 boss by freaking out and weaving around like a nutter , i wish i filmed it it was hilarious .

I mostly play the Raizing ones nowadays. I'd love to own all of them on pcb at some point.
