Game Storage Cabinet

Post by Ganelon »

Can anyone recommend a good cabinet (of the non-arcade variety) to store games in? What I'm looking for is something with a back, with a door in the front, completely opaque, big, relatively inexpensive, and with enough rows. I don't care about the material as long as it doesn't smell so I guess something light yet firm would be best (i.e. probably not wood).

So I guess it would be something like a CD cabinet with sort some of cover for the front and the ability to move the rows for all those different box sizes: http://www.storeyourmedia.com/1500-cd-c ... inish.aspx
Or this if it's not wasting a huge amount of space in each compartment: http://www.improvementscatalog.com/home ... binet.html

Any particular cabinets you all are using? From folks' collections, I see a lot of see-through cabinets but they won't work for me because the room I plan to place the cabinets will be directly exposed to plenty of sunlight.

Honestly if you have some wood working tools and a tablesaw you might be better off to make something custom. One of the best ideas is to use shalf pegs. You simply have your side pieces filled with shallow holes in the sides. The shelf pegs can then form a shelf whever you want. The nice thing about wood is that it doesn't have to be uber expensive if you use something chaper like pine but if you want a really classy looking shelf you can get into woods like purpleheart and such. I would advise that if you do this route you go with the peg idea since your collection will change from time to time and you may need nore or less space. Weight is certainly a factor here too. MDF is relativly cheap but because it is pressed sawdust it is really heavy. Pine is very nice it is not as heavy as MDF but it is a bit mroe costly. Oak and other hardwoods are very heavy and expensive.
Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.
