I just received a SNK LS-30 rotary stick a few days ago. This joystick looks simply awesome. The yellow octogonal top is something I've never seen before. It feels sturdy and when I rotate the stick it makes a loud clicking noise. I remember playing Ikari Warriors on the Nes but never the arcade, so this a treat to actually handle one of these. I also will be getting a Ikari Warriors pcb soon for some rotary action. The joystick was labeled as NOS when I bought it and definitely was unused. It required no cleaning except new grease in the green/black compartment which had dried up.
If anyone needs info on disassembling the LS-30 there's a nice guide on the BYOACWiki - http://wiki.arcadecontrols.com/wiki/LS- ... ch_Service
My camera is being used at the moment so I can't take picture. Thankfully kKowal97 made quick vid of the SNK LS-30 so you can see what this rotary stick looks like. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uaP0r8IypS0
Taking it apart I see how the Seimitsu LS-32 and LS-33 are related to the LS-30. The LS-32 and LS-30 can share the same mounting plates. While the LS-30's yellow base is indeed of a different shape, the metal brackets around its sides makes the mounting holes the same as the LS-32. Also the pivot hole area of the LS-30 and LS-32 are the same size. Another interesting part of it's 8-way joystick it doesn't require any lubrication and it has cylindrical pivot like the LS-33.
Now my only question is where's the LS-31 in all this? The only stick that comes to mind is the original joystick used in the Neo Geo AES stick. I don't have a AES stick to be sure, but I have seen pictures of it and its identical to stick found in my XE-1PRO and XE-1ST2 joysticks. This stick has no name, but it's green base is nearly identical to the LS-30. Could the AES stick be the LS-31?
SNK LS-30 rotary stick & What happen to the LS-31?
So you mean that the SNK sticks were manufactured by Seimitsu? I have LS-32 sticks in my cabs, and I also have a couple of SNK-sticks + harness. Thank you very much for the info on the mountingplates.

Yup. I think you can easily mount a LS-30 into your japanese cab. I was able to mount mine to my HRAP2 panel but there's not enough space underneath though.emphatic wrote:So you mean that the SNK sticks were manufactured by Seimitsu? Interesting to note that the mounting plate of a LS-30 also works on CPs meant for Happ joysticks. So i guess its possible to install a LS-32 stick in american cabs too if you swap mounting plates with the LS-30.
You have never played it this way? It's teh awesome. Also, Heavy Barrel is a must with these sticks.D wrote:I would so love to play Midnight Resistance with a rotary stick.
