Thunderforce VI announced by Famitsu for PS2 in 2008
Aggressively suiciding against the final boss can cause some really weird texture glitching. Also, I've had Free Range's reticle disappear on me after the stage 4 boss exploded.ZOM wrote:Only glitch i came across was the missing cursor on the title screen.
No problem with free range here.
I have to say, the more i play this game the more i like it. Maniac difficulty with Rynex-R is quite the challenge...
Switching to either Forward or Rear shot during the warning sequence can kill the spoken audio.
Anyone able to translate the End Credits and the Reports?
Hi there,
can someone translate the Reports from the game and the name of the staff members, responsible for TF6?
The only english name i can read is "WORAG" = GAROW (Mirrored)
PS: I really like the game, especially Stage 5 (The Battle against Styx,Rynex and Gauntlet). I took me abaout 20 games to realize, that
the game is short but far away from bad. It´s Thunderforce. Could have been better - could have been worse.
The only things i dislike are the FMV Sequences, because they look choppy and also some horrible BGM, which don´t belong into a TF Game.
The Boss Tracks are all real good.
PS: Wasn´t the Syrinx Fighter origninally blue? At least the model created by Garow.
Bye

Just got the game in today guys so I'd like to post a few impressions. First off, great music. I like pretty much every track in the whole game... Jungle theme is my favorite even though it really doesn't fit too well with the rest of the series.
Cons:
-The screen going into seizure mode after you defeat a boss. It vibrates entirely too much and actually bugs my eyes... seriously
-The backrounds are pretty lame and it looks like the game was rushed out of the door. Almost half of the backrounds in the game are just one flat polygon.
-A couple cheap - old school mega man - deaths were suffered my first play through. The one that sticks in my head the most is the dragon from stage 3 coming up from behind with the quickness... no where to move in time unless you are anticipating it.
-I found all of the weapons useless except for Free-range... I was able to use it, as my sole weapon, throughout the whole game (but that's Thunder Force tradition... No?
)
-I was also able to 1CC the game on my fourth try (with only two deaths) on the default difficulty... I cannot name another shooter that I have done that with...
About the games difficulty... Thunder Force V felt just as easy to me but the last boss in that game was brutal! The two robots you fight before the last boss in TFVI are actually more difficult than the pushover final boss in TFVI (both phases combined!).
At first I came in with my expectations set too high (hey it's Thunder Force!) despite the negative feedback I had already read... Upon playing it the first time I would be lying if I said that the game didn't initially leave a sour taste in my mouth... HOWEVER - I decided to take a small break and after an hour or so I came back with lower expectations and thoroughly enjoyed it up until the end.
The game on default settings is too easy... I'm going to go try on harder difficulties now - and try out Rynex... will keep you updated.
BTW - Game is muuuuuch better than Raiden III as well as R-Type Final... for that other thread floating around...
Stage Order: 2 1 3
Final Score: 18426200 ALL

What more can I say I wouldn't be here today if the old school didn't pave the way.
I just got mine today, finally. I played through it once, and I'm pretty happy with it. It's a lot like TFV, with much better graphics, and the wave weapon is actually useful, as someone said. I love the music, especially the final boss music. We need more metal soundtracks in games. I've had more fun playing this once than I've had with all my attempts at Gradius V.. It's good, don't believe the negative hype in that "other" TFVI thread.
“What did I had done!”
Just 1CCed the Rynex game! The game is much more challenging (still only lost two lives though...) and you can't rely on free-range nearly as much as before. Used every weapon except the the first base weapon... Really really like Rynex. I still have to see how the game plays on higher difficulty levels... but first Syrinx!
The more I play TFVI the more I find myself liking it!
Edit: The soundtrack is completely different! I loved that!

You can't spin the free-range with Rynex...henry dark wrote:After what stage? I no missed the first three stages on my second go by just spinning the free range weapon around in the direction of 'danger'.dial911 wrote:you can't rely on free-range nearly as much as before.
Edit: You also have to get much closer than before to hit enemies with it.

Took Rob's advice on wave...
Over weapon on top of the beam should be illegal... it is that good.
Just finished off Syrinx with the 1LC (no surprises with a ship this powerful...)
Rynex - Normal
Final Score: 19,614,400
Syrinx - Normal
Final Score: 23,482,600
Will try the other difficulties tomorrow and post up.

Yep I agree. But I still prefer Phoenix's wave shot, it destroys everything, no need for OW.dial911 wrote:Took Rob's advice on wave...

Would be cool to see your scores in the Hi-score thread, it's pretty empty there right now...

Message of Galaxy Federation
I believe all you guys here already cleared the game using Phoenix. Do you guys ever wonder what are the Galaxy Federation word on the ending ?
I`m very lucky to have friend that understand Japan`s language perfectly, so here are the translation.
Note: some word are little bit difficult to describe on English, but we will try to use the closest word to describe it
" Are you understand what are we saying?
We are waiting so long
the time when our lost wing, come back to us
because endless battle against the ORN,
many countless wings who go to the sea of stars,
and never returns
But we are believe
the wing never lost, even though time is flowing
the wing who came from far
now we are along your side
lets we fly together*
to your endangered planet, on the edge of sea of stars
dear wings
who inherit the will of Carol & Roy "
* the original words are tobidachi could mean "fight or adventure long journey" but we decide the current word are the most appropriate
Translation (C) Bramandita Kurniawan

This is my experience. I just wanted to complain about it the first hour or two but now I'm thinking top 25 list filler. Maybe. Rynex and Maniac.dial911 wrote: The more I play TFVI the more I find myself liking it!
Too bad they ruined freeway. It didn't need an idiot grid.
This is easily better than TF5. No completely boring stages.

I was originally set off by TFVI. I didn't like the way the overweapons worked, and I HATED the way you keep your weapons when you die. it didn't feel right, and took away a strategic element of the previous games. (I don't play as well as others, so I would always think before switching weapons in fear of losing them.) But I managed to beat the game with phoenix, and playing with the Rynex fighter is so much more fun. I'm enjoying TFVI more and more, but, I may be alone in this, I still like TFV more. It seems to have more polish gameplay wise. Maybe I'm crazy. And the last boss of TFVI needs to die in a well. That thing does not belong in a Thunder Force game.

that was for the "normal" Ending ( when clear the game using Phoenix on Normal-Maniac difficulty level)The Coop wrote: Is that for the "Good" ending or the "Bad" one?
While the "good ending" was about Carol and Roy when they were drifting after their battle isn`t ?
Seriously i`m not expecting any one to take attention about this. it`s just may way to appreciate the translation work with may way, and to confirm that the translation was not done by me, thats all.adversity1 wrote: sorry but nobody needs to copyright their fan translations

Doesn`t that refer to us the player ? or in this case are the phoenix who come from earth to help the federation destroying the Orn Emperor.henry dark wrote:

For me, Thunder Force have the coolest story among the other Shooting game.moonblood wrote:

BTW, does any one realize the different between normal mode and Neo style beside that the round bullet become "capsule" like bullet and the destrucable bullet turn to undestrucable bullet with neon color ?
in contrary, the are all destructible without over weapon, and if you take a close look, they now are become more colorful and this is have a reason. This is not something big, but i say rather interesting. How to do it just by shot them with the corresponding weapon of our ship depend on their color. This is a little hint for destroy them regarding with the enemy bullet`s color and our weapon that corresponding :Ghegs wrote: Neo Style is, from what I could tell, exactly like the normal game mode except that all the destructible bullets are replaced by neon-colored non-destructible ones. This naturally makes some enemy encounters more dangerous, but it's specially noticable during the final boss, when in his final form he spams the screen with normally destructible bullets now turned far more deadlier. Over weapon still destroys them, though.
- Red bullet >< Weapon 1 (twin shot)
- Purple bullet >< Weapon 2 (back shot)
- Yellow bullet >< Weapon 3 (wave/blade)
- Green bullet >< Weapon 4 (Free Range)
- Blue bullet >< Weapon 5 (Hunter)
And finally... i have complete all of the report. Too bad i can`t read Japanese alphabet beside the katakana or the hiragana^^;[/i]
Thunder Force VI on Hard mode is the real deal. It should be the default setting for the game. All the naysayers bitching about TFVI need to give this mode a try... also unlock the Rynex ship.
Rob's sentiments about the game are on point... top 25 filler for sure. I was able to ICC hard mode without losing any lives but I attribute that to already getting used to playing through the levels... definitely more challenging though for sure.
I'm going to complete hard with Rynex + Syrinx and then move up to maniac... will let you know how that goes
Phoenix
Final Score: 23,179,400 ALL

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?
Re: Message of Galaxy Federation
Yes, this was mentioned in the strategy section. I was disappointed that I couldn't be the first one to mention it.Makoto Sei wrote:BTW, does any one realize the different between normal mode and Neo style beside that the round bullet become "capsule" like bullet and the destrucable bullet turn to undestrucable bullet with neon color ?

I need to try this mode again but it didn't seem to be that great. Honestly it's just kind of weird and would've been better if the patterns were reworked around the idea.
