Apparently you don't need a lot of market share to make money, nor do you need to lose much on a new system launch. Go Nintendo! 3'rd place maybe, but rakin' it in.
Nintendo's a smart company. They have a really solid business model and they always seem to stay above the curve in terms of hardware costs. The Revolution looks to be furthering that idea too. Who knows what'll happen in the next gen, but Microsoft's 360 is looking somewhat weak and it seems like the time is perfect for Nintendo to steal back the #2 spot. Here's hoping, but they're going to need killer launch software. No more of this Luigi's Mansion crap.
I wish they would deliver a console on a par with the snes.
They always seem to put some inexplicable element into their consoles these days that holds them back (n64 cartridges, gamecube's bizarre pad, the mario party games etc...)
Give them the xbox360 technology and developer support and they would be unstoppable.
And then maybe they will get round to concentrating on producing games like pilotwings and marioworld again, cause I never really got into the new metriod and zelda games.
The only reason Nintendo's made all that moolah is that they keeping milking the damn Pokemon and Mario Party franchises. Seriously, who keeps buying this crap? Soccer moms and their screaming little brats, that's who.
NOTE TO POKEFANS: I don't think all the Pokemon games are crap, in fact they are quite fun but not really my cup of tea, it's just the way Nintendo makes the damn games, two different colored verisons of the same game.
NOTE TO MARIO PARTY DORKS: Sorry, I hate Mario Party period. It's gay and stupid, yet Nintendo keeps making more of them because you keep buying that shit. Seriously stop playing this gay series and play a real multiplayer game, like Mariokart.

The thing that knocked them down into third place wasn't the GC controller - it was the lack of third party support. Minus Nintendo made games, there are very, very few exclusives for the system. The inability to play DVDs also hurt the system at the starting line.

Pokemon still makes lots of money, yes, but Mario Party isn't that big of a seller. It still brings in some money, but it's not a huge monster of a franchise like Pokemon.
Yeah, it's definitely the PokeMon that keeps them afloat. Licencing alone must give them a very comfortable amount of capital.
You can't discount the Game Boy, though. That bad boy, even without PokeMon, could weather Nintendo through any console disaster. What're there, 100 million Game Boys? Some ridiculous number like that.

That's kind of the point. Forced trading of Pokemon is one of the things that made the series so huge in the first place. Removing that is like adding a lifebar to DoDonPachi.

While I'm fairly sure this was supposed to be funny... it's not the kind of funny that Shmups Forum policy allows for. It's probably also offensive to some of our members for obvious reasons. Just a casual reminder to folks to save this kind of heavy trolling language for forums like GameFAQs...

Bottom Line is that Nintendo could care less what we think because they're a fantastically run company that rakes in the dough, which is the goal of every business. As long as they keep posting numbers like these, where they are in the console battles won't matter because, (1) they don't lose money on console/handheld sales like Sony and MS, and (2) they make plenty of money on software sales, both first party and licensing fees for non-Nintendo games on console/handheld. I'm not the biggest Nintendo fan, and their constant whoring out of franchises borders on the disgusting (along with companies such as Namco) but you have to respect their business model - it works brilliantly.
Yeah, but they're in last place. That means that no matter how many millions they make they're losing and should just go third party. Or quit altogether to avoid the unbearable shame. Who'd want to make hundreds of millions if it meant being in third place?
Nintendo will be last place on sales because they will always make the weaker technology that will not appeal to tech heads.
Nintendo will not always be 3rd place if Sony and MS keep throwing billions of $$$ into the pool though. Sooner or later profits and cash flow will hurt the other 2 companies.
I estimate by 2008 the industry would of shrunk due to lack of innovative ideas. The graphics of the newer systems resemble reality therefore power will become obsolete and profits will rule the day. Nintendo's business model is based on this, they are just waiting until they can fight on equal ground. Once power is obsolete, Nintendo will rule supreme again. Thats just my forecast.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.
LOL, perfectly put. It's only misguided teenage angsty forum klingons that care that Nintendo is in "last place" in the all important marketshare war. I was pretending to be one in my previous post. Hopefully it will help them to realize how their drivel sounds to others.
Suuuuure you were. But hey, if you ever have a few mil that you're not satisfied with because other people have more than you do, toss it on over here, I'll give it a good home.

I have said this quite a few times in the TNL, and it is this:
Obviously we won't get a new Zelda at Rev's launch. But if Nintendo wants to fight the combined clout of the PS3 (which is rumoured to launch with MGS4) and 360 which will launch with Halo 3, they MUST launch with a new mario adventure AND Metroid Prime 3. They need at least two classic franchise characters to get a foothold this time. As you said, if they slack off like they did with the GC launch, they will get buried this time.
But who am I kidding, I should just be thankful if they're competent enough to launch it on time and with a mario game of any kind.

Ummm....yeah..I'm sorry for saying that. I didn't mean to offend anyone, but I really don't like Mario Party. It's not my cup of tea. I was angry because I has was having one of those bad days and needed to blow off some steam.
