Armalyte review

Post by mars man »

I just thought I'd post that the C64 game Armalyte has a terrible review here which is pretty amateurish.

Whilst reading through the review I have found absolutely no mention of the fact that you get complete control over your option, having the ability to place it and make it stay when you press the spacebar, and after reading the section about the bosses "taking ages to destroy" I have a sneaking suspicion that the reviewer doesn't actually know he can do this.

So at the end of the day you have a game, which is usually considered one of the best, if not the best shmup on the C64, a game that can stack up to any 8-bit shooter on any system of the time, being reviewed by someone who doesn't actually even know how to play it.

5/10 is quite frankly a completely ludicrous score for this game.

Sorry for the rant :)

So write a review for it yourself.

Oh my god he like IO as well, what an overrated pile of turd that is, it's like one long memory test completely lacking in gameplay :(

I stand by what I said, he didn't know how to play the game and then when people told him he was embarassed and wouldn't admit to it :P

What used to be good with the ancient zzap 64 reviews was that they had multiple reviewers take on a single game - that's something that really should be done in shmups.com too - as we have seen many times how wildly opinions can differ.

I've just reread the review, ok so he glosses over the power up weapons system which is a major FU and he admits this in the above thread.

but...

I think he makes valid points about the graphics, sound, level length and collision detection.

Personally I think the graphics are well drawn but horridly coloured. The sound effects are boring and the levels are far too long with not enough variation.

However I still play the game because I enjoy it. The power up system is cool and I like the bosses.
I still think its one of the best on the C64 despite its huge flaws
