The Official Cool PCB You Just Got Thread!
Went to the local game shop and turns out his car just threw an engine so he needs a new car. Therefore he was willing to wheel and deal today. I was asking if he had anything super special he was looking to sell, and turns out he had an extra Radiant Silvergun he forgot about sitting in the back.
So I picked up:
Radiant Silvergun plus mobo for $250
Twin Eagle $20 instead of $40
Double Dragon for $20 instead of $30
Mazinger Z for $100 instead of $140
Ghost n' Goblins w/Jamma convertor for $60 instead of $100
Final Fight for $30 instead of $50
Some pretty good deals especially if you would factor in shipping off of Ebay or anywhere for that matter.

I live in St. Louis, MO, where Patrik Berglund of Sweden plays now. Maybe you're into hockey, figured you might know him from World Juniors. Actually there's an import video game shop here that was buying cabinets from Arcade Infinity for a while. So he got a ton of PCB's way back when via Japan to sell to people who were buying the cabinets. Also, there used to be a monstrous arcade at the airport. Well the guy who owned it didn't care what happened to his PCB's, he just wanted to be making money. So he would tell the guy who ran it to get something earning in there. Well the guy who ran it had all this shit in his basement and sold a fair amount of it to the shop years down the road.
The shop used to have around 100 PCB's for sale. Now its closer to 40 I'd say. I've bought almost anything worth a damn off of him since nobody else is really into Jamma locally anymore or if they are, then they don't know what all he has. Just in the past year, I've bought from his shop Dangun Feveron, Radiant Silvergun, Battle Garegga, Gunbird, and Dimahoo just to name a few. I can remember back in about 2002 when we first ordered cabinets we placed an order for boards via Japan and I got Guwange for $130. Turned around and sold it for $100 a few years later. STUPID!!!!!!!! Shou from these forums helped that scene out tremendously as he's originally from St. Louis, but now lives in Tokyo.

For Dave K.,
Is that Daioh PCB you got an American Sammy version? You might recall that it's THE only tate arcade shmup PCB to be graced with 6-button setup from the get-go. Can't say that of the original JPN region of Daioh though as it is endowed with 2-button support at best. It's fun to try out the JPN version of Daioh on the USA region PCB to see what changes in terms of enemy placement and different sprites comparisions between the two. I like how there's no need to swap Roms out...it's all done via a 2-pin header swap on a certain jumper.
American Sammy knew what they were doing when releasing Daioh for the USA arcade scene with the highly touted 6-button feature. The difficulty factor ramps up really quick if you are doing well...and the CPU does check to see if the player is doing well (or not) and adjusts it accordingly. Perfect arcade shmup for those swearing matches...gets some players all worked up with it's unrelenting difficulty. In the end, Daioh is purely designed as a yen and quarter muncher. ^_~
Nice to see all three Warashi released shmup PCBs together...

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

I finally scored one of those Japanese region "Ninja BaseBall Bat Man" PCBs...is one of those M-92 powered PCBs that Irem's "In the Hunt" game is based on. It is a two layer PCB setup and quite heavy with all the socketed Roms and such. It does have support for up to four players maximum. ^_~
Fellow shmupper, oxtsu, says that it goes for between 10,000 to 15,000 yen in some used arcade PCB shops in Japan nowdays.
I can see the inspiration that Irem got to do this particular Ninja Baseball Bat Man PCB by looking at Hudson's/Red's Air Zonk/Denjin Zonk PC Engine console shmup release...a fusion of cool, colorful and wacky 2-D sprite based brawler fest with many crazy and zany enemies to beat up -- all this is presented in a baseball motif for you baseball lovers out there. ^_~

That is indeed an awesome score! Ninja Baseball Bat Man has been one of those quirky Irem classics that has been on my to-get list for years now. Humorous beat-em-ups are always a pleasure to play and return to. Congratulations.
The Irem M-92 arcade PCB's are indeed large and heavy. In size, they seem comparable to CPS II cartridges (just the top board). Only CPS II's are protected by plastic shells where as the Irem M-92 is pure PCB goodness.

Thanks for the kind words. ^_~
Yeah, that Ninja Baseball Bat Man PCB never takes itself seriously...Irem sure knew how to craft such cool 2-D sprite fest games with it's M-92 based PCB. I do recall playing the rare USA region "In the Hunt" at my local arcades back in the early 1990's -- very cool for it's very detailed artwork on the sprites themselves (this is something that isn't seen much anymore on modern-day arcade PCB titles).
Sure, it would be nice to see Cave return back to it's roots and create another arcade shmup title using very detailed and hand-drawn sprites instead of the time saving method of using rendered graphics so prevalent in their current arcade PCB releases. Of course, it would be a nod to it's eariler games and how they were made back in the mid 1990's. ^_~

Yup - just got the chips today to convert it back to JP version with zakk 's hack. Cannot wait to try this out!croikle wrote:Garegga with no extends just seems wrong, though I'm sure it's still enjoyable. Is there any way to convert it to the Japanese version?
EDIT: shoud have mentioned that you need to clip the jumpers at 3 & 4 to make it the Nippon version - which I have done and it works great. If I want to go back, I just solder two jumpers on - but I never will.

Hey dude,
I always was a bit partial to grindstormer actually! I have the MD ver coming from Domino, but I heard its not too hot a conversion.
I thought the Outzone was a good deal - it's a terrific game. Whats the normal price range?

Last pcb I got, well i actually have 4 on the way at the mo from various places, which will land on my doorstep first is another question!
They are: USAAF Mustang, Thunder Cross 2, 1943 and a Golden Axe, all originals. Probably going to have to flog a few of my own collection to make space for them, space is becoming a real issue!
