Iam a fan of Tamayo Kawamoto and what he's done with Zuntata. The soundtracks for Night Striker and RayStorm are some of my favorites. And there are some tracks in the TFVI that I like. So, I agree that it's not 100% crap.

I guess I'm just too baised towards Hyakutaro Tsukumo. And finding out that he was going to have nothing to do with TFVI was hard for me to accept.

He had nothing to do with Thunderforce I-IV either. If anything, we should be disappointed that Toshiharu Yamanishi wasn't on board. ::shrug::

Yay! I can respect that. Like I said, it's not 100% awesome either. But there are some great moments. And I understand how this is a slight slap to the face, seeing as while Zuntata is awesome, they aren't Thunder Force. They're Taito. And Furukawa is Gradius. But on the same token, it's cool to see all these shmup veterans come together!

And yes, Tamayo is a she...and kind of a cute she...

:D

I noticed in the credits, her band, Betta Flash, had a spot in the music list. I bet it was the vocal in that gorgeous intro song.

That fish in her site... I can see Darius!!!! We need moar surreal Zuntata making Darius music.

The OST seems to fuse several genres that sometimes collide into each other but I'll have to listen to it in a good sound equipment before passing judgement.

It's a shmup. Shmups are rare on PS2. I'm getting it.

Screw you fools... :P

I am glad to take this poor game from the hands off someone.

oh and how fuck up are my game preference? I like Thunder Force III the best and Thunder Force II the second best. Yes I say it…

TFII >>> TFIV

I don't give a fuck.

That is correct. And I agree. Both of them would've worked on it, though. That's a gimme. And it would've been a legendary soundtrack.

TFII >>> TFIV

then i imagine you will love 6 then... I do. But I own TF2 and hate the top stages. it's not even that they are top stages, it's finding the bases that bores me to death.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Effin a. I thought Hyakutaro did an excellent job at his helm, but for me, Tomomi Ohtani and Toshiharu Yamanishi practically are Technosoft.

I ended up buying TF2, TF3 and TF4 -already had 5.

-I enjoyed the game, -the music is fine, not terrible like some people seem to think.
The one complaint i have is that its sometimes a bit difficult to see the bullets or what ended up killing you- maybe thats just my TV tho. -I had to go out and get an old style PS2 so i could use swap magic- so i'm using the RGB leads when i'm used to the component leads.
hoots mon- crivvens, help ma boab

Having gotten it yesterday, I can understand some of the complaints in here, but I don't agree with them...

- The music is quite nice, even if the two very different styles kind of butt heads at times.
- The graphics, while not OMG AEWSUM!, are far from bad. The colors are vibrant, the textures are good (not great, but good), the designs are nice, and all the fan service scattered about doesn't strike me as cheap at all.
- I've been playing it on Hard, so I also haven't been struck by the same difficulty issue that others were by starting on Normal.
- Stage length hasn't bothered me either, as having a shmup with shorter stages was never an issue for me (I mean, look at TF II and it's sub-60 second top stages, or TF III's roughly 25 minute length). Hell, Galaxy Force II, one of my favorite arcade games from back in the day, is twenty minutes... tops. It's not the length of the game, but how enjoyable it is during its duration.

Anyway, I'm enjoying Thunder Force VI quite a bit. It may not be the pinnacle of shmupdom on the PS2, but it looks, feels and plays like Thunder Force, with a new and enjoyable musical style (which continues the "changing the sound"-trend going from game to game in the series). Money well spent IMHO.

I agree with everything with the exception of the music but yhaa it's a Thunderforce game and now that I'm spending more time with it, I'm starting to look past all the disappointments I had with the game and just enjoying it.

kozo wrote:I like about 2/3 of the music. You guys are dissing Tamayo and effin' Motoaki Furukawa, two of the greatest shmup - and VGM in general - composers of all time. For the uninformed, Tamayo did tons of Zuntata (Taito) stuff, and Furukawa did Gradius II, among others. Some legendary stuff, and two huge names if you're in the right circles. I was expecting a good soundtrack and found a good one with a few crummy songs.
Damn, I didn't know this before reading this thread. I realized within 1 minute of playing the first stage that someone from Zuntata had to be involved with the music. Is there an OST for this game?

Just got this, and already finished it, took me only 5 tries. Multiple credits to beat the game with Phoenix, then got a 2cc with Rynex, then a 1cc with Syrinx.

Maniac certainly is much more difficult, but it won't take much effort to beat it too.

Overall, it's a nice game, I like it. But I don't see myself spending too much time with it. Too bad.

I'd love to know as a percentage how many people can say they can 1cc this game within an hourt of getting it. Not many I think. 10%?

Anyway I got this game yesterday. So far, underwhelmed, but then I felt exactly the same with Border Down initially.

That's quite the same that happened to me and I totally agree with your last sentence.
I just 1CCed the game with Syrinx. That wave overweapon is a killer when you use this ship!

With the music being different for each ship you choose, I have to say I prefer the soundtrack when you play with Phoenix.

I got the Hard mode 1CC within 5 days. I'm beginning to think TF6 needs to be played on Maniac to fully appreciate it.

Nothing beats TF4, but this one is still fairly good.

To heck with you guys! This game is fun! And it's a good "beginner's shmup"!

By the way...how many ships can you unlock in this? I have two, total. Phoenix and Rynex.

There's one more. Clearing the Normal mode with Rynex will give you Syrinx.

I finally spent some time with this and was very disappointed with it at first
but after I unlocked Rynex this game really began to shine!
I think Rynex & Maniac is great fun.

I got to stage 6 with Rynex on one credit, so I can't comment on Syrinx right now.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Those who are ragging on the game are clearly only playing it at normal or simply not Thunderforce fans. This game is solid, Thunderforce sweetness.

In an interview the producer said that the problem with shmups is that they got "too manic" so it makes sense that the "normal" difficulty would be more accessible. The bosses still go down a little too easy on every setting though.

I 1CC'd normal with Rynex and got nothing.

playing this game with the default ship and normal difficulty almost gives you a false impression when the 2nd ship is unlocked rynex and you switch the difficulty up a notch the thunderforce charm is more clearly on display , they shoulda just named normal mode " accessible mode"

This thread is a great dis-service to shmups as a whole and TFVI in particular.

It is hardly a BAD SUB-PAR game.

Bad, sub-par forum contributor, imo.

Thread should be locked, member should be baned and not allowed to return to forum until he 1cc on Hard mode.

(no, seriously.)
