Doujin Ketsui for PC?

Post by Observer »

Now that we are all KETUI KETUI, let's make another thread based on that.

In fact, this is first time I make a thread if I'm not wrong so let's refrain from spamming "lol, doujin" for the moment.

So ZeetherKID77 posted not so long ago in another forum a link to a couple of videos he found at NicoNico, which portray a Ketsui look-alike (in fact, it seems to be using ripped imagery so unless they change the graphics for original stuff, Cave will eat them alive) for PC and controlled with the mouse. Yes, the mouse. Now you can go "lol, doujin".

Needlessly to say I would've preferred an affordable, region-free PC port instead of a "bossu rashu modo" DS version, delays and region-locked stuff...

Anyway, links:

Game title?: 怒首領鷲 <<< The horrid google translate says: "Eagle Boss Ikari Warriors" (wth, hopefully someone will make a proper translation)

Maybe someone with japanese knowledge could clear this mystery? It looks amazing. Who or what is this Team Eagle? Is this a hoax? A clever hack? Your thoughts?

Uh, hope this hasn't been posted already...

Title is poking fun/tribute to Dodonpachi.

怒首領鷲: Dodonwashi - Angry Eagle Boss (literally, but remember that Dodonpachi is a pun to begin with.)

I can't read japanese so can't sign up to watch the videos. Looks cool from the screenshots though, and also looks hoaxey.

Controlling with the mouse is the most WTF part though .... May have to use xpadder to get around that

Give me more info!!!

If I recall correctly, the creator isn't really intending to release this anytime soon because the assets still belong to CAVE or something.

There's a thread here with a link to a NicoNico registration guide.

It looks like quite the Cave mash-up, with DDP-style bees, Ketsui chips, something like Kakusei mode, and more. Might be fun to play.

Looks pretty professional. Yeah, I'd also like to know how they ripped those graphics... Maybe they had the guts to draw everything from scratch using reference! Anyway, it looks to me like the ship is controlled with the mouse which isn't necessarily bad, just different-- gotta build the game around that sort of thing, though.

EDIT: Whoops, I notice the topic creator mentioned it was mouse-controlled in the first post. Gotta pay attention

2009 is such a long wait for Ketsui, and even then we need to wait for the region free release on the 360, which may or may not happen.

So will this guy release this game for the PC or is it just a personal thing.

I really want to try a mouse-controlled shmup of this caliber. I wonder how it would feel/if it would work (for me) to play twitch-movement super dense parts.

Rough translation of the notes for the video:
This game was created to show people who don't play STGs the awesomeness of Cave games (ok, not awesomeness, but close enough).
The system and barrages are intended to represent Cave games as much as possible. Control is with the mouse.

The system is in processing, but the assets are from the Cave site and soundtracks, with portions created by himself.

It can't be released because it uses Cave's assets. Creating everything from scratch would take too much time, so he used Cave's assets, but he intends to make an original STG sometime.
I think processing refers to this. I haven't translated his final sentence, I think it's something about the video eventually being deleted for copyright infringement?

Are you kidding, a couple of months is nothing, many of us have been hoping/waiting years for a port

MAME tiles, or RGB full-frame capture for arcade boards.

Not difficult to do. The fighting game homebrew scene has been doing it for yonks with Mugen.

So, I finally found the guy's blog and it seems he's still working on this!

http://d.hatena.ne.jp/Eagle966/

In fact, "Dodonwashi" is really its official name. And it is indeed about angry eagle bosses instead of bees. The guy is also waiting for KETUI for the 360 but it'll be really nice to have the doujin alternative too.

He put a 60fps test up in june and it'll definitely be mouse-controlled so far.

http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/1624636

There is also a post with different screens that apparently portray how the sprites are placed in game? God, I no longer know what to think. If it's half as good as it seems, I'll be happy. Fingers crossed, hope to see this released one day.

edit: graphics are still placeholders apparently, same for the music (lol at DDP-DOJ stage 3 theme). Ah, well. mmm, he better starts making original materials soon...
