It means you haven't satisfied the conditions to open them yet, so the game's telling you what to do in order to achieve them. I'm guessing those are the 3 lowest numbers that you haven't opened yet?

Got Evaccaneer down to a one-miss in Death Label Mode.

Finally managed to finish Death Label, yay! And had like 4 lives left in stock. Not an amazing score, but oh well. Extra mode is really fun. I kind of wish I had a couple more lives to tackle it though :?

Congrats!

Yeah, Extra it´s over extremely quickly for me too. One or two more lives would have been much better. Either that or a "Restart" option. Even with the minimal loading times on the DS, I see the Game Over screen when playing Extra WAY too often, and constantly aborting and restarting because I fuck up withing the first twenty seconds is very annoying.

Seriously, this is a feature most oft-overlooked in console shmups. If I'm already given an ability to restart via pause menu instantly, where does the driving force to subject me to unskippable gameover screens and so on come from? Many doujins don't have that problem.

Savestates are even better. I love being able to make my own level select and instantly restart when I screw up. No wonder people like Prometheus swear by it. Shame it doesn´t work on Raizing games, though, and that it stopped working on later MAME versions for DDP. That´s also one of the reasons why I´m not really interested in PCBs - having to start a game all over just to practice the last boss on the second loop (not that I actually could do that, but whatever) doesn´t seem compelling to me.

I´m going pretty offtopic here, but I wonder if there would be any way to manipulate a PCB in such a way that you could force a level select into it :o

Try doing that on the Mushi PS2 port

Haha. It took me a solid week to figure out why Mushi wasn't saving my scores.

It would keep giving me that damn message, and I just assumed they actually meant "continue" because I couldn't imagine that hitting "restart" on stage 1 would disqualify me from posting a score.

Come to think of it, the restart in Mushi for PS2 is completely useless. Since there's already a practice mode, there's no need for it.

Seeing "let's challenge without the restart" for the first time was a major kick in the faec though. I just figured it would start over properly like RFA does.

Well, it´s useful within the practice mode at least, especially because it happens almost instantly. Unlike in Ibara :?

a lil offtopic here...
does Mushi for the PS2 saves teh scores for you?... because i've been playin arrange mode, and achieving some "decent" scores here and there, and it saves... but when i restart the machine, the scores are gone...

is there a workaround for it?

It saves them. What you're seeing is "Today's Hi-Scores". Press a button on the controller (forget which one) and you'll cycle through to your saved scores.

How many bosses/stages has the "very hard" mode ? I keep dying on the 8th and just want some perspective how much longer it goes...

When is it advantageous to use the regular shot?

I've been using Type A almost exclusively, what's the pro's / con's of the two ship types? Something subtle I haven't noticed?
Personally, I use regular shot if (and only if) I have to make a quick rush to avoid some larger wave of bullets. That's why I use Type B since it seems quicker with regular shot than A.

But then again, I'm the guy still stuck on Very hard even when I have all 20 ships so there's probably something wrong with my approach. :P

Mine came in this morning (I think - I haven't opened the parcel yet but it looks like yesasia's style and the size is about right for what is in the order).

I had it shipped via the free service, but shipment was also delayed due to one item in my order being out of stock. Are you still waiting?

HOW TO HAVE FUN WITH KETSUI DS

1. Turn off auto bomb

2. Play Very Hard mode or Doom mode only

3. Repeat

4. Don't play for score

Otherwise, the above is exactly what I do, and I love it =) Especially in little bursts while waiting for TF2 to load on my POS computer or something.

Slow is better than getting hit with 30% or more import duties for all my orders from play-asia, guaranteed. Last time I had to pay over $9 in duties on a package declared at $20 value. You could say it's not play-asia's fault, but they absolutely refuse to mark packages as "gift". When orders get into triple-digit values, it's nothing to laugh about.

Never had any problem with yesasia at all. Speaking of which I'm going to start heading home now to play my game and music CDs from yesasia.

I was hit hard by the customs on a Playasia order, too. 30%+, and the package (that was "in stock") arrived here in 3 weeks. Not an excellent experience if you ask me.

And I managed to get the game working on my Supercard. Maybe I'll just be a dick and keep my copy sealed, ho ho.

thanks for the reply. yeah i'm still waiting. i've never had a problem with them before either, and i don't mind waiting ~2 weeks to avoid vat/tax but raiden 4 still hasn't arrived, although apparently they have re-shipped that now, and i'm getting a little worried, but if other people have had theirs i'm sure it'll turn up eventually :?

I find it a bit too hard to enjoy it, to be honest. Enemies like the big helicopters fire very nasty, tight patterns right in your face, and sometimes there are so many enemies onscreen at once that I just completely lose orientation and die.

Adding to that, I already know I will never be able to clear it, ever, judging from how insane Doom at the end of the course is supposed to be. I think the small screen works very fine in the rest of the game, but here it´s just too much for my taste - bullet hoarding is very hard to do and the missing vertical screen space causes enemies to appear very suddenly with very little time to react. But meh, maybe I´ll like it more when I get better at it, at the moment I can barely pass the section after the first two doppelgänger ships :?
