Funny story though - I remember the time I read "Eaters of the Dead" like it was a documentary. LOL!

It's times like these that I realize how much of an asshole I am. My first thought at seeing the title was "Finally, shit."

The only book of his that I actually liked was The Great Train Robbery. It's getting around that time that I read it again, actually...

Oh, well. Too bad he couldn't shoot off a decent book or two more before he kicked it.

Yeah, this made me sad. Back in 5th grade, I read my first non-school novel (Shirley Conran's Savages, certainly not a book dogmatic parents would want their kids reading), read through all the early Star Wars novels, craved more reading, and was trying to find a well known author whose books I could enjoy.

Michael Crichton was the first author I wanted to read. I remember reading Rising Sun and watching its movie adaptation back in 6th grade and proceeded to read every single one of Mr. Crichton's novels up through Airframe since I enjoyed them so much. I have fond memories of those times too; it's when my command of English prose finally picked up, and the books helped me establish a broad vocabulary as well as completely broke down any naivete I had about "mature content."

It seems all the authors I used to read are passing away; Robert Jordan died just last year from disease. It's sad when a piece of your life just disappears...

A few years ago he wrote a book about anthropogenic global warming being a massive conspiracy perpetuated by greedy scientists trying to get free money for their diabolical schemes. He genuinely believed this to be true and went on an obnoxious crusade on Faux News about it.

I'm with you. Chrichton was a talented author with a fantastic imagination. His contribution to film will be missed.

Westworld too, is awesome.
