Apparently they still aren't sure about Al Franken's race, complete wierdness.

I mean I know the man's white but I'm just not sure if he's won or lost; 100% of the precincts are in but the margin is so close that they'll be doing a recount.

I'm pleased all around. Obama won, and made his typical good speech. McCain FINALLY made a nice speech, even with the crowd not cooperating. I kinda feel bad for the guy, I think if he had ran 8 years ago he would have had a much better chance at being able to play his own game, not the stupid crap the republican party is all wrapped up in now.

Besides that the proposals for medical marijuana and expanded stem cell research passed here in Michigan. So hopefully biomed stuff will have a better chance of pulling the state out of the shitter. And I can thumb my nose at the mega-conservatives at school who think that weed is some great evil (who would've thought that these people would be in an art school?)

ahah:
-- The debates unnerved both candidates. When he was preparing for the Democratic primary debates, Obama was recorded saying, "I don't consider this to be a good format for me, which makes me more cautious. I often find myself trapped by the questions and thinking to myself, 'You know, this is a stupid question, but let me ... answer it.' So when Brian Williams is asking me about what's a personal thing that you've done [that's green], and I say, you know, 'Well, I planted a bunch of trees.' And he says, 'I'm talking about personal.' What I'm thinking in my head is, 'Well, the truth is, Brian, we can't solve global warming because I f---ing changed light bulbs in my house. It's because of something collective'."

Considering that in 2000 he hired a handful of infamous "race men" to head his Southern campaign, spoke out of both sides of his mouth on the Confederate Flag issue, and put out highly misleading robo-calls (and denied having done it until the voting was over), among other things, I somehow find myself skeptical of the whole "there are two McCains" story that's become popular of late. The only difference I see between now and then is that the media were far more willing to gloss over his unflattering qualities and actions than they have been more recently.

Cautiously optomistic about BO but my enlightened state also ammended the state constitution to "define" marraige as man\women. We also reelected our batshit insane sheriff and county attorney.

I was forecasting major shoot outs and civil war in the USA once this happened. If not then the USA is truly ready for a non white president.

Yes because publicly funded stem cell research is EXACTLY what Michigan needs right now. Do you even know wtf is up with Proposal 2? The state regulates pretty much everything from barbers, nail salons, acupuncturists and Proposal 2 makes the stem cell research industry exempt from the same regulations as previous mentioned businesses. Plus the taxpayers get to foot the bill even though lets see WE'RE BROKE. Don't go dancing in the streets for that one just yet because its not necessarily a good thing.
It’s almost over. It’s just begun.

The younger people voted against it, so it's a (slowly) dying issue. Shame that in the meantime same-sex couples will have to draw up elaborate wills to ensure property goes to the other person, and that older people will not be able to marry there.

On the plus side Prop 1A passed, which will enrich the lives of thousands and potentially millions, which is very important as well.

Dictator Bloomberg gave a surprisingly good set of comments about Obama's win:

the crowd was quite disturbing. that sentiment is echoes all across America, no doubt. The past 8+ years have culminated towards a very divisive atmosphere among the rank 'n file.
McCain, was a class act in the end, though. And a shining first step towards healing, and hopefully coming together.
I agree. And I am proud of how far this country has come, in terms of race relations. But really, both men are great men and I think you can be proud of whoever you voted for, although I am VERY happy that Obama won!

The Governor of Minnesota was on last night (I was watching ABC's coverage) and he said, in so may words, that the Republican Party has to do a better job reaching out to minorities and young people and they can't expect to win an election if they don't. Other Republicans echoed his sentiment that the party needs some serious introspection, and I definitely agree with that.

Oh yeah, and Kenya has declared Thursday to be a public holiday!:

Seriously. Are you ready to "share the wealth?" I support causes I deem worthy (including local poor) of my own accord, but the gov. reaching it's grubby hand into my wallet and giving it away is not cool.

Sick, isn't it? I don't recall who suggested this, but I'd support a law banning the teaching of religion to children. If they're not indoctrinated a set of irrational superstitious taboos when they're the most vulnerable, they'd have a better chance to deal with it rationally. "Just WHY am I supposed to interfere in someone else's relationship? Because invisible-man-in-the-sky said so? You're talking nonsense!"

The root of evil is evasion, the refusal to think, to acknowledge reality. Religion is a syndrome of evasion, as it praises faith -- acceptance of the non-proven, non-probable, non-possible -- as an ideal.

Maybe nihilism is a reflection of a religious view. If you once thought the meaning of all comes from a deity, and you lose faith, you may see things as meaningless.

But you can find meaning elsewhere; <randroid> The purpose of man's life is his own happiness, achieved by seeking his goals and ideals in a productive, rational manner. </randroid>

Nice. After you are made to look silly, you resort to name calling. That's the strategy that lost McCain the election. (Of course, 'socialist' is only name calling in some quarters.)

Why do people keep clinging (yes, I said clinging :P) to this "Share the wealth" line? He was speaking metaphorically. He's not taking money from $200,000+ makers and handing a check to the poor using that money. The rich will be getting an increase on their taxes, and the money from that hike is going to the government. Those under $200,000 are either getting no tax breaks, or a considerable tax break, depending on how much they make per year... thus, potentially allowing them to keep more of their paycheck.

How? Are you guys calling me racist for not supporting Obama? Nice reasoning skills. Obama would be ashamed of supporters with that kind of logic. He can hold his own, folks. He doesn't need your weak/unfounded accusations to defend him.

Thats it, you all fight over what you can't control. It will start on the forums and spill out onto the streets.

I heard the 7-11 is selling uzi's and fast running out of stock boys!! Get them while you can...

On a serious note.. Politics is not to be debated. If you like it then just smile, if you don't then fight the people that instigate it. Its almost like saying but but but but but but but... it goes on forever and ever.

Have faith

Amen.
