Does anybody remember an ancient arcade game called Stratos. There's a good chance that "Stratos" was the bootleg name for this game as I remember playing it on a generic cheap looking cabinet.
The game itself was a sort of primitive Space Invaders/Galaxian/Galaga kind of thing where you shot at swirling/diving aliens. The one feature I remember clearly was that the aliens occasionally dropped little "men" that landed beneath a dashed line along which your ship went left and right. These "men" then moved left and right underneath this dashed line and fired a little spear up through the spaces which would destroy your ship if you came into contact with it.
Sorry this description is a bit vague, but I've been trying to find this game on MAME with little success. If anybody recognises this game and maybe knows of an alternative name for it, I'd appreciate it.
Stratos
It's not Stratovox. I downloaded the ROM on MAME and the game, although similar, is not the one I played back in the very early 80's. Thanks for the offer of the cabinet, but the one and only arcade machine I am lusting after is Tempest (my fave arcade game of all time). I would pay through the nose for one in good condition and operational.

I recall that it was possible to buy such an Atari Games upright Tempest cabinet for a mere $100.00 USD back in 1989. It has since gone up in price if you want it in such condition as you describe.bvivers wrote:It's not Stratovox. If you attended the 2008 California Extreme classic arcade & pinball game show this past July 2008, there was a marked serial number #1 (right off the assembly line) Tempest upright cabinet displayed for all to see/play. It was set on Free Play and it wasn't for sale at any price either. ^_~
