Hurrican?

Post by RedDeathRunning »

Is this game old news? Downloaded it earlier today and it seems to be a great side-scroller despite some control problems here and there.

Considering the fact that it has been released over a year ago...yes, pretty old this news is. Also, using the search function first might have helped;-)
Great game though...and free:-)
Imho, there are absolutely no control problems here. It's just rather complicated and needs to be played with a pad.

You can download the original Amiga Turrican's from Factor 5's website here: http://www.factor5.com/downloads_backups.shtml

I quite like Hurrican, it's a nice homage. :)

If you plan on downloading Turrican disk images, you're probably better off finding .ipf files. It's nice of Factor 5 to put their games up, but SPS is much better at making authentic ones.

Hum... Played a fair chunk of the first stage on Normal and while the controls (with a DS2) and weapons are pretty decent, I found it somewhat lacking in the "adventure" department. I mean, sure, the world is expansive, full of secrets to discover, stuff to destroy in a flashy manner and loot to pick up, but where's the structure (for the lack of better word)? Even some hackneyed key finding and fetching quests à la Flashback would have given it more focus. Metafight/Blaster Master (1988) had more weight to it as an action game with a plot (rudimentary as it was).
In Hurrican the story is easily forgettable as soon as the intro's over. I wouldn't mind having some, you kow, objectives. Some video game logic here and there. Stuff like "destroy the power generator to disable the force field".
Charged shot rocks, though (nearly as hard as the one from Contra: Shattered Soldier), so do grenades and, um, "morph ball bomb-setting. So far charged shot and grenade are the game's graphical highlights too. Otherwise it does not look all that hot (at least the playable character is well animated).

The way out is cut off
