So it's not unlike Twin Galaxies' "world" records?sven666 wrote:why is it called the world series? is there actually any other country competing?
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Its pretty safe to say that the winner of the world series probably is the best team in the world.
Although Japan did win the World Baseball classic, but thats not based on individual clubs but rather nationality. And Cuba seems to dominate the Baseball World Cup, but Major League players aren't allowed to compete in that.

At the time the World Series was established (the current version was first played in 1903), baseball was pretty much nonexistent outside of North America. The Wiki article has some explanation of this.

Im not here to talk about murder..just fun.
Also you have to understand. There is a difference when it comes to Philly fans. People who paid a grand for their season tickets, they're not doing anything. They love and respect the team too much. It's the fuckin bums that can't even afford a hat that cause all the trouble. That's the truth.

If you're interested in other countries playing "big league" baseball, you should check out the eh...whatever they call it...World League I think? I'm personally fascinated w/ it.[/quote]
Back in the early 1900's or whatever, there were two leagues in baseball - which, incidentally, only existed in the U.S. - the American and National Leagues...they decided to call it the "World Series"; but, you know they could have called it the "Mega-Series", or the "Uber Series", or maybe "El Chingon"...why is it called the world series? is there actually any other country competing?

Awesome Season, no Yanks or Red Sox in the WS, Phillies win, what more could you wan't ? It's time to take my happy thoughts and hibernate until the March WBC.
Oh and Baseball is popular in Europe but only in Italy and Holland (both participating in the WBC, both without a remote shot of winning the damn thing though).
