STGT08: Criticism and what to do next year
Personally I think the idea of only announcing the theme and leaving teh shortlist off until voting is a good idea. Maybe even limit the voting to 2 or 3 days to reduce pre-practicing.
I'd also prefer if more games were put in the running, I think previous years had like 5 games in the running each week. Unless I'm mistaken each game won in a complete landslide this year, so having some more choices would probably make it a little less obvious which game was going to win.

So I don't even care about it so much now, but it's like your girlfriend wants you to make a mix cd for some B&G except she's like don't put Prince that's so typical and I've heard all the songs too many times.
NO PRINCE?!
It would be funny if teams didn't want people to vote for a certain game, if they started making mudslinging topics like "What do you REALLY know about DoDonPachi?" Did you know you'll have to learn to chain nearly every attack pattern til the end of the stage? Just how many bees are you willing to chain just for a little heads up to your competitors? DoDonPachi doesn't give a shit about you and your 12 hour a day work schedule. Vote Strikers II.

The reason why everyone wants to play Dodonpachi is because a lot of the shmups players (mainly newer players) seem to have it stuck in their head that Cave is the only good thing going for shmups anymore.
The reason why everyone doesn't want to play Dodonpachi is because a lot of the shmups players (mainly Raizing, Seibu, and Psikyo players) seem to have it stuck in their head that too many people want to play Cave constantly.
Or something like that.
You could have a all-doujin stgt next year and see how it works out. Or, you could take third_strike up on his idea. Or something else. Choices, choices, eh?
Or maybe you could all wait for 2009 to worry about 2009.

Here's a crazy idea: why don't we vote for the game we LEAST want to play that week. Judging by the amount of complaining, that's at least a topic people feel passionate about, so we could expect better voter turnout. This also has the effect that, unless the nominees are particularly bad, said complaining is kept to a minimum.
Of course, this would work worse the more different options we have, so with this it would be best to keep it to 3.
My thinking behind this is as follows: if you really like a game, you'll vote for it if it comes up in STGT (in the current format). But then, if you really like the game, you'll play it anyway outside of STGT. The idea of STGT is to get people playing games they might not usually play; but on the other hand, no one wants to play a crap game, so with this system they can say: I'm not playing that shit, but I'll give either of the other two a shot.

That's the less flexible version of my idea left here without comments.Ravid wrote:Here's a crazy idea: why don't we vote for the game we LEAST want to play that week.
