Eugenics: you know it's right!
Well, perhaps it's no masterpiece but I like David Byrne's more sinister lyrics sung in an uplifting gospel tone... it makes the mellower, adult-contemporary type numbers seem a bit tongue-in-cheek, and Eno's backdrops are alll fairly well-done, some weird transitions and soundscapes mixed into the mix into the background of what are on the whole fairly straight-forward major-key songs. It's a lot subtler than some of the other discs on my list.CMoon wrote:How is this album, I heard some negative reviews.damakable wrote: David Byrne & Brian Eno - Everything That Happens Will Happen Today
Well, I'm not really as new as I seem... but I'll let it slide for now. ^_^jon wrote:Great choices on the last three posts from some of our newer members.
Here, I thought of a few more... though I really could go on forever:
Converge - Jane Doe
Lightning Bolt - Hypermagic Mountain
The Locust - New Erections
NOMO - New Tones
Mogwai - Happy Songs For Happy People
Spiritualized - Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space
Talk Talk - Spirit of Eden
Simply Saucer - Cyborgs Revisited
end. - The Sounds of Disaster
Venetian Snares - Rossz Csillag Alatt Szuletett
Minutemen - Double Nickels on the Dime
Some of these are getting closer to being classified as favourites... I guess I should stick to things I've gotten into more recently from now on, for this thread.

Lightning Bolt and Locust are good, anything else on the list like that?

Papa M - Whatever, Mortal
That Papa M album is amazing. The singles he released afterword have some good work too. Too bad niether of the Pajo albums have really had anything as great.
I wanted to check it out...but haven't yet. I did enjoy their other colaboration. Also, if anyone is a fan a David Byrne the Young Adam soundtrack he did is excellent.damakable wrote:Well, perhaps it's no masterpiece but I like David Byrne's more sinister lyrics sung in an uplifting gospel tone... it makes the mellower, adult-contemporary type numbers seem a bit tongue-in-cheek, and Eno's backdrops are alll fairly well-done, some weird transitions and soundscapes mixed into the mix into the background of what are on the whole fairly straight-forward major-key songs. Many thanks, I'll get the downloads.Acid King wrote:It's a 7" they put out on Sub Pop. I dig it. The new drummers style works well. Though I'm not a huge fan of Grails, his drumming was the highlight of their set when I saw them with Om sometime ago.sjewkestheloon wrote:Can you please tell me what this is? Anywho, it was released as part of some bullshit collectors subscription thing, where only subscribers received copies. So unless you feel like paying bloated ebay prices, you can't actually purchase a copy. Luckily, it's been posted on the interweb. Scroll down to the Om interview and the two tracks are posted for download.

I listened to the first 3 songs and turned it off. It all sounded a little dull and fatiguing.CMoon wrote:How is this album, I heard some negative reviews.damakable wrote: David Byrne & Brian Eno - Everything That Happens Will Happen Today
A shame as I like a lot of stuff by both.

My favourite Locust track is Well I'll Be A Monkey's Uncle. But it's all the same thing really... rrrmright? No of course not.captain ahar wrote:my favorite locust is the self-titled EP.
Well, I think I mentioned Genghis Tron. Everything they've done from their first EP is pretty inspired. Then you've probably heard of Melt Banana. Converge and Zozobra are metalcore, and Fuck the Facts are grind, but I like to compare Jane Doe to Wintereisse to confuse people into reading the lyrics. No, it's not on the same level as Schubert, but it's good.JoshF wrote:Lightning Bolt and Locust are good, anything else on the list like that?
How about:
Agoraphobic Nosebleed - Altered States of America
Behold the Arctopus - Skullgrid
Profundi - The Omega Rising
Respectively: grind, instrumental math-metal, black metal. For more math, check out Hella, though I mainly mention them for their connection to The Advantage, who play some of the best instrumental video game covers out there.

I love that CD.damakable wrote: Agoraphobic Nosebleed - Altered States of America

You fucking killed yourself, slit your wrists with my fucking car.
I hope you felt real fuckin' stupid on the way to the emergency room.
I had to fix the window you smashed,
but I'll never wash the bloodstains from the floor mats.
fucking dead queer. I hope you feel real fucking dumb.
I have no sig whatsoever.
Heh, my favorite from that CD is "Bitches' Handbag Full of Money". I remember reading about that Razorblades track in an inertview with Jay Randall. I don't know if he did it or someone he knew, but they put razor blades in their car like that and some guy that tried breaking in and stealing their stereo just wound up getting fucked up. Priceless.captain ahar wrote:

i also like that track and great story. another standout for me is "theme song for american apeshit," i just love the little drum kick right before it hits into the heavy part at the end... y'know, relatively speaking.Acid King wrote: Heh, my favorite from that CD is "Bitches' Handbag Full of Money". one thing i've always been impressed by with them, for not having a proper drummer, there is some really cool (simulated) percussion in their stuff. all in all, i'd say "frozen corpse stuffed with dope" is shaping up to be my favorite. though admittedly i've only heard "bestial machinery" and "pcp tornado" besides.
edit: the quoting seemed kind of unnecessary...

So I found out I get free access to Ruckus through my school. Downloaded too much stuff, not enough time to listen. Also, DRM sucks balls. Anywho, here's the last few i listened to...
Behemoth - Zos Kia Cultus
Deicide - Scars of the Crucifix
Burmese/Fistula - Split
3d House of Beef - Similar Attack Patterns
Pentagram - Turn to Stone

Now I'm on Last FM, I don't even need to think about this question D:
Deerhoof - Offend Maggie - A return to form of the highest order

My Bloody Valentine - Ecstasy and Wine - Wikipedia may inform me that only their last two albums are "not considered representative of their sound", but I've really been enjoying this portmanteau album.
YMCK - Family Genesis - I've been getting back into bleepy Japanese pop after a long hiatus, and this is one of the best albums I've found...
Sonic Coaster Pop - Super Miracle Circuit - ...along with this band. Pure bubblegum pop mixed with MBV style swirling electronics and Atari Teenage Riot bass drum rushes. Really special.

Glad you like it!
