Sony PVM-2950 15khz or not?

Post by evangelion-01 »

Hello there guys, i've been looking into buying a CRT monitor for RGB goodness out of consoles and maybe arcade boards in the future, I've been looking around and found this unit on craigslist. I've been told that most sony PVM monitors are 15khz but not all, i googled and googled and googled and i couldn't find a real answer, the manual for the unit is not help either... So, my question is, Is this monitor good for my needs? thx.

All "PVM" monitors are 15khz, the 31khz versions area called "PGM" (PVM = professional video monitor, PGM = professional graphics monitor).

And yes, the PVM-2950 is a fantastic videogame display. Just make sure the seller is really offering a PVM, not a PGM ;)

No idea about the NEC though.

Also, i've been looking on craigslist and i've found this guy that is selling a bunch of Mitsubishi monitors 35"27" and 29" I don't have the model numbers in hand, but i'll try to get em, but for what i understand form a PDF i downloaded almost all Mitsubishi monitors are 15 and multisync, right? thx and sorry for being such a n00b at this :(.

I saw a Mitsubishi 32" Diamondscan RGB monitor that was up and running a Sega Naomi game of Super Monkey Ball at a past California Extreme show. It was jaw-dropping gorgeous and running at 60 frames-per-second arcade spec framerate. Those Mitsubishi RGB monitors are worth the $$$. ^_~

NEC XM29 xtra/plus are awesome, but sadly dont do 15 khz....you would need an XRGB or the like to run 15 khz on them.....

i have an XM29 xtra at home...the picture is amazing..... DC running through s-video looks better on this than most screens using a VGA box

very nice.....and great for tating :D
