STGT2008 - Week #5 - Progear
Goddamnit I was planning on doing productive things this weekend, i really want top 3 for this game considering it's pretty much my favourite game everfirestorm wrote:STG - namakoteam - 34,447,100 - 2-4 - Bolt - Nail - CPS2
should i be happy because of the good score?
or sad, because somone has got the double score in the same stage?

THIS IS THE SADDEST INCREASE EVER
It started out as a potentially great run. Then I fucked up and died twice on stage two. It was pretty weird from there on.

My 1CCs so I can find the list easier myself
<Despatche> you've been a thorn in the shmups community since the beginning, you're largely responsible for the horrible face of modern speedrunning

okay i'm not playing this game any more even if i do love it. i have hit so many ceilings (and broke through them) this week it's pretty unimaginable. please please PLEASE nobody upload a better score than this although i get the feeling lots of people are gonna hold back until the last few hours because they're a bunch of cowards or something idk
Danbo Daxter - MANGO SENTINAL - 35,222,920 - 2-5 - Bolt - Chain - MAME
i think something must be seriously wrong with my scoring technique if I can get further than others and get seriously less points for it. i managed to do the first loop with only 1 bomb but after that i tend to just go nuts with them (it's nowhere near familiar territory) so that's probably it. good luck to everyone on this most fateful of weekends
edit : or maybe ring + nail is just particularly good for scoring.
edit2 : does anybody know what it says once you do the first clear? i never bothered to try looping the US romset

Its still waaaaaaaaay down the table, but i'm happy with this run because it really hasn't been a shmup week this week and just getting to stage 3 without losing a life is an achievement compared to how i've been playing these last few days.

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this. But Ring and Nail is definitely the best scoring combination. Each 10,000 gems you’ll gain +10 points (times the multiplier if you have it) for every shot that lands and Ring and Nail both use lots of low damage bullets.Danbo Daxter wrote:i think something must be seriously wrong with my scoring technique if I can get further than others and get seriously less points for it. You really just need to get your gem count up; this is really significant when doubled for the second loop. Futobishi is obviously some kind of God, but on 2-1 he is getting 1,100 - 1,200 points for each shot that lands and gets 12million for completing the stage.
I was going to write up exactly how the Progear scoring worked but kind of abandoned it since it seems a bit conceited when my own score is rubbish (I can hit 7m on stage 2 now, but I still mess up stage 5 so much I don’t loop...).

This game is pissing me off now.
SFKhoa - TCACTRM - 44,057,240 - 2-2 - Ring - Nail - MAME
Highlights in this run.
1) Managed to do the stupid vacuum technique in Stage 1.
2) Got some nice amount of jewels from stripping down the Stage 1 boss.
3) Got more jewels from attempting to strip down the Stage 3 boss.
4) No-missed, no-bombed the first loop. Again.
5) 2-2 took out ALL my lives because I started to randomly blink like mad.

The Coop - Team Oldschoolers - 11,259,060 - Stage 5 - Bolt - Nail - MAME
I actually made it through the first three stages without bombing the bosses (died once on stage 2 though), and somehow got through that weird weaving pattern on the last part of the stage 3 boss (I almost felt a touch studly with that one). Got the boss on stage 4 after lucking out a few times with jewel collection along the way, bombed its last part until it died, and made it to that big mech in stage 5 before getting blown out of the sky for the last time.

1-miss first loop (embarassingly enough on the mine shaft after I got a nice diamond fountain rolling DAMMMMMMMMMMITTTTTT), liberal use of autofire on bosses where I used to just gun them down as fast as possible, basically an ok run.
Second loop is like Gradius, so basically I never want to play this game again. (And yes this means I was joking about Otomedius) The alternate costumes make it approximately twice as fun which is not a positive comment about which games I would rather play than Progear.
Icarus wrote:Pretty stupid idea, making players restart on death in the second loop.
Wait, you go back to the start of the stage if you die on the second loop? Seriously!?spineshark wrote:Second loop is like Gradius
At some point I was going to practice enough so I could reach 2nd loop, but now I don't have the slightest interest anymore
