5/26/05 - FIVE frickin' RPGs in one day

Post by Cthulhu »

For those of us here who like RPGs... (me! me! me! )

For some stupid reason various companies are releasing their games on the same day, and May 26 is seeing no less than Five RPGs:

Namco X Capcom
Berwick Saga
Eternal Mana 2
Ys IV: Mask of the Sun remake
Hanjuku Eiyuu 2

Yeah, three of them are strategy RPGs, and one is an action RPG, but still...

I'm buying Namco X Capcom and Berwick Saga... I -might- pick up Eternal Mana 2 as well. There goes my money I was saving towards a PC-FX

If you've already played TRS, could you tell me how Berwick Saga fares when you get it?

Sure, will do. I own Tear Ring Saga, but I haven't really done much with it yet... the main difference is supposedly that Berwick Saga is much more difficult. Tear Ring is reputed to be extremely easy. I'll let you know how things go with Berwick when I get into it...

The game at the top of my list is Namco X Capcom for now though. A game with Ghosts N' Goblins characters AND Darkstalkers characters!?! Can't go wrong if you ask me!

Gundam: True Odyssey and Grandia III will be the only 2 RPGs I will play this year.

Likewise, I shall only play Atelier Iris and Dragon Quest 8 when they eventually make it out here. Atelier was pushed back to June 28th, and I have no confidence whatsoever in S-E USA to release DQ8 before the end of the year. FF12 will no doubtedly come out on time, but once again, the 6 American DQ fans will get screwed. So I guess I'll only be playing one new RPG this year.

currently trying fro a perfect file on ff1 :dos at the min. what rpgs are you guys currently going through?

I pre-ordered Eternal Mana 2 (and picked up Eternal Mana a few weeks ago but probably won't play it until I play the 2nd o_O). For what it's worth, Sega released Phantasy Star Generation 2 and Shining Force Neo on the same day. Morons.

YS: the Oath in Felghana came out recently too, if I'm not wrong.

The only thing stopping me from getting the JP release is obviously the language barrier. At least you can import the US version when it comes out, so I wouldn't worry about "not getting it at all" as you put it. There's a thread somewhere about importing US titles, and some good sites were listed. As long as you play in RGB scart, you shouldn't have to worry about NTSC -> PAL issues.

Hehehe, me too. I haven't played FFX yet, though, since I only recently got a PS2. I like the mideval fantasy theme of the Dragon Quest games much better, but the modern-era FF stuff is interesting and unique.

Yup, I'm playing FF I-II as well. I'm slogging through the bonus dungeons in FF1. The encounter rate is awful, but at least I'm owning everything in sight (including bosses). My levels are in the 70's. Knight, Ninja, Red Wizard, White Wizard. This is an awesome party, btw. I wish I had another Masamune to give my Red Wizard. Maybe I'll find another one in the bonus dungeons.

I also started a game in Lufia II on SNES. I'm very very impressed with it so far. The best thing about it is no fucking random encounters. God, I'm so sick of those, especially when there are no items to control it. That's why I only care about two RPGs this year.

I ended up buying 3. Namco X Capcom, Berwick Saga, Eternal Mana 2. I wasn't going to buy Eternal Mana 2 but... such pretty 2D! 8)

Namco X Capcom is a blast for fanboys (and fangirls alike). It's very light on the actual strategy element (even less deep than Super Robot Wars games) but just getting to play around with old faves makes it worthwhile.

Haven't gotten to play Berwick Saga or Eternal Mana yet. Maybe later.

Ys VI: the Oath in Felghana isn't out yet - June 30th. I have it preordered.

It's actually YS VII: the Oath in Felghana. Part VI is the Ark of Napishtim. I hope you've played that one. Awesome awesome game.

How about some input on YSVII when you get to play some of it?

I wouldn't worry about Dragon Warrior VIII coming out; it was hyped up at E3 this year, so I definately think we'll FINALLY see it over here in the States.

Right. VII. I meant to say that.

Sure, I'll post about it when I get it. I'm looking forward to it quite a bit... the preorder bonus for it is insane too - SIX music CDs! Most of them are Ys III music and remixes thereof, but still. Six. Wow.

The last RPG I finished was the US Digital Devil Saga, and I'm currently playing Stella Deus at the moment.

And a shameless plug for the stuff I'm selling on eBay, if you're into that sort of thing.
