Unreal 3...
Unreal 3...
OK,
So there is Unreal Tournament 3 which uses the Unreal Engine 3 then there is the upcoming Unreal Engine 4 (which has been in development since 2003!), but what about a new single player Unreal 3 game?
Is there any chance Unreal 3 might see the light of day?!
I know Unreal 2 was a great disappointment compared to the 1st Unreal, but it would be cool to see a new single-player Unreal 3 game with large non-linear levels, excellent music and a cool sci-fi movie-oriented story-line like Unreal 1!

OK then!
Oh and what's with those guys in GOW wielding chainsaw heavy-machine guns?!
I've seen ridiculous weaponry in games before, but they look so retardated!
OK, maybe Unreal 2 was not a great disapointment, but it was one of the 1st modern FPS that initialized the heavily-linear path gameplay style. And those between-level scenes at the Atlantis spaceship were so boring!

it might not be just you but I found it to be the opposite... and if you've only played the 1st level.... well I wouldn't read 10 pages in a book and feel completely justified calling it boring. Is it just me or is Gears of War a boring game?!
I couldn't even be bothered in finishing the 1st level!
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?
I personally played a couple hours worth of co-op with my friend in GoW and I still found it shallow and boring. Find cover, sit there, aim at enemies (which sucks with a stupid analog stick, but that's a different argument), hold down the fire button until they die, move to different cover if you can't hit them, repeat until they're all dead. Sitting in one spot and shooting enemies isn't that fun.

Nope. Of Epic's games I've only played the UTs (UT99 being the best) and the aforementioned few hours of GoW.Ed Oscuro wrote:But did you play Unreal 2?
I gotta say I'm more of an iD fan though, Quake and Doom (before 4 and 3, respectively) are FPS heaven right there

gears of war in single-player was fine, not great but fine. i had a good time going through and fighting all the regular enemies. that being said the boss battles sucked.
i am optimistic for the sequel, but i think some of the problems i had will still be present. such as the absurdly macho bullshit present throughout the game (and not in a funny way either, throw some nice homoerotic undertones and then we'll talk).
it would have been way better if "the train" would pat the others on the ass after every time he spoke. a deep pat.

I have no sig whatsoever.
Agreed on the situation of the franchises, although I like Quake II and games based on it less as time goes on, although I'm trying to get into QII N64. Quake feels as good as ever. The point with Unreal 2 is that GoW is doubtless a masterpiece in comparison.kengou wrote:Nope. that is interesting to me that quake II can feel so horrible in a modern context, but i can boot up quake and have a flippin' blast.
doom 1 and 2 are just ok in my book at this point, and doom 3 can't even compare to those. although to be fair, i still feel i reserve judgment on doom 3, at least until i can play them on a pc (xbox for the lose).
also, i will echo the sentiment that UT rules the multiplayer arena FPS... arena. i just wish i had internet to make it truly worth it.

If Quake's leaping monsters (the Fiends) didn't get hung up on stairs, the enemy list would be nearly perfect.
Quake II is just lol at this point. Small guys with guns, bigger guys with guns. Not a whole lot of variety there, and the dog-men are just a pain in the ass to take care of - not challenging, just incredibly annoying to deal with.

I'd like to see an Unreal 3. I've played the first two games, and enjoyed them both (I still don't see why 2 was bashed relentlessly over the last few years), and 2's ending just left the door wide open for a sequel... or at least an expansion pack. It would be nice to see what became of John Dalton.
Hopefully blasted to cinders along with the rest of that farcical crew, botched storyline, and franchise. The Skaarj never were really good bogeymen, but their replacements here were worse - and worse yet was the "artifact that makes things suddenly big" MacGuffin was the topper on a shit cake. A cake made of SHIT.
One thing that had me confused for a while was that the girl seemed to be the protagonist from the original Unreal (and its expansions), but isn't.

****Spoilers!!!****
The ending of Unreal2 was great! Unlike the majority of cheesy Hollywood movie endings, this one was actually sad and dramatic and it also had a dark & sinister feel!
The part where the massive flagship changed course towards the star and the ship's computer was constantly announcing the distance and the rising temperature of its hull and the eminent destruction, was such a cool touch! Also, everybody dies in the end and the hero escapes with all these sad thoughts in his head, to trouble him for God knows how long!
****Spoilers end****
By the way, is it true that you can play Unreal Tournament 3 in one player mode using patch 1.2?
But is there an actual one player story-line campaign mode with non-linear levels, enemy creatures & end level Bosses?
Or is it like the one player mode of Unreal Tournament 2003?
I've played that and it was just a death-match through the levels against the AI players!
Not very interesting...

Sorry I lost you there! What do you mean? Who's "MacGuffin"?

Do you mean one of the female selectable characters of Unreal 1? I don't think Aida looked like any of them imo.

You remember - the artifacts everybody goes after make little monsters into big ones. OMG IT REENGINEERS THEIR DNA!!11
For MacGuffin, I'll let crazy Alfred explain it:
"One man says, 'What's that package up there in the baggage rack?' And the other answers, 'Oh that's a McGuffin.' The first one asks, 'What's a McGuffin?' 'Well,' the other man says, 'It's an apparatus for trapping lions in the Scottish Highlands.' The first man says, 'But there are no lions in the Scottish Highlands,' and the other one answers 'Well, then that's no McGuffin!' So you see, a McGuffin is nothing at all."
I'll grant that they tried with the ending, but the rest of the game was pretty crap and uninspired. Also, I don't think I ever heard the underwater music (which was fairly cool!) playing in the game.
Game crashed on me a lot of times, too (although there were some stability issues on my rig at the time).
"Single-player mode" in UT games means playing against bots.ST Dragon wrote: By the way, is it true that you can play Unreal Tournament 3 in one player mode using patch 1.2?
