Interesting take on danmaku

Post by Brightstar »

Take Nintendo and CAVE and a bunch of other companies, mix em in a blender and you get in one small chunk of the mess the following.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2aH_sD3iPb0

The real fun starts at around 2:30. I was a little shocked when I played this but it was really fun to see how shmups can interact with other game styles. I couldn't find any posts under search about this. The project, Mushroom Kingdom Fusion is still in development. Also the speed of the video is only about 2/3 of what it really plays at. It's very processor intensive.

"It's Touhou!"

Disregarding that, the game itself looks sorta interesting.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Maybe someone should count the amount of times someone brings it up in the "HARDEST BOSS EVAR" video. The one with the Mushi boss.

Edit: This just in! Alluro's behind it, apparently.

I like to learn how to do something like this, except better (I don't find Mario that exciting.) I saw there were some books on game maker and mmf but I have a feeling they're aimed at kids.

Looking through more videos this person deserves more credit, but the first video looks boring even with the bullet curtains. Some of the crazier stages look much more fun and really well designed.

Sorry for posting in an old topic, but yes, I'm one of the developers on Mushroom Kingdom Fusion. I am indeed throwing many SHMUP references that fly over many people's heads.

Here are some videos that I've made myself:
A certain knight in boxers makes an appearance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOUW4iuTI6U
Crazy SHMUP Bomb demonstration: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYuQkk9UAR4
2D rendition of Halo's The Library level: http://www.moddb.com/games/mushroom-kin ... over-level
Remake of entire World 1 of the first Super Mario Land: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8xRCFiMZxc

There needs to be a whole game based on that Halo level. Because it is off the wall.

Another "interesting take on danmaku" is, without a doubt Tirkiss: Princess Shade.
Its more or less Zelda meets Bullet Hell.

This reminds me that shmups are about the only genre Nintendo is afraid to touch.
Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

I've been following the development of this game on Youtube very closely, and it gets more awesome which each new video that comes out. Of all the games I'm eagerly waiting, a Mario fan-game is at the top of the list.

MKF looks very cool, and it looks like the developers are putting in a lot of thought and hard work. I'm excited to see what it turns into.

The first two levels of the very first R-Type have been converted to platformer levels, as World 6-2 (Bydo Station):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VdZiPJwTA4Q
WIP video of Arthur of Ghouls 'n Ghosts trekking through what is Stage 1 of R-Type 1. Dobkeratops appears as a midboss, and the level transitions to what is stage 2 (Bydo Caves).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lk16BAIPU10
Video of the nearly complete level. Luigi fights Dobkeratops, treks through Bydo Caves, and battles Gomander, including the Outslay snakes. Gomander's second form is a recreation of the fight against this same boss in R-Type Final, where you have to go inside Gomander and attack its internal core.
Wierd stuff. Is this available for download yet?

Interesting. Looks like fun, although I'm not sure how much I like the slow touhou-like bullet patterns. I seem to recall there is another, released doujin game that is similar to this, I'll go hunt it down (I think it's on shootthecore)

edit: here it is: Engage to Jabberwock
"I think Ikaruga is pretty tough. It is like a modern version of Galaga that some Japanese company made."
