Recommended control for Psyvariar 2 (DC)

Post by junkeR »

Hello Everyone,

I was curious to what the recommended control scheme is for Psyvariar 2 on the Dreamcast. My thumb sort of felt a little stiff after playing it for an hour or two last night and I was curious if any Dreamcast arcade sticks were recommended over the game pad?

The agetech "greengolbin" stick is pretty good on the DC. There has been a few new ones on sale here lately, and looking on ebay you can get a new boxed agetech stick for about $50, unboxed for about 25-30.

If you care about modding, its fairly easy to change out all the parts and there are plenty of guide on can find online, you could look on SRK or mabye a thread here, but they are pretty detailed and have step by step pictures.

You probably wont want to mod it right away as the default stick and buttons are higher quality compared to other sticks at this price.

If you used the recent HORI ex2 on the xbox360 or PS3, the quality of the agetech stick is a bit higher IMHO.

seconding clp's approach - spend some time/money on a stick you want and use a converter it - you'll love it for everthing on dc and ps2.

To be fair you can always get a the dreamcast stick and then mod it and buy a converter to play with on ps2 ... (in my limited experience - ps2 to dc / dc > ps2 shouldn't lag at all)

The stock dc stick isn't the worst - but it does trade mostly on its possibility of modding... If you just want a stock stick and don't want to bother modding then get a ps2 Hori Real Arcade or a stock Hori stick (most common are tekken or soul calibur types I believe) ... can always mod these later if you feel picky ...

Unless you don't care or have really specific needs the ps2 8 buttons, in 2 rows of four layout may well be the best if you ever fancy playing in a neogeo format... otherwise just for psy 2? ... any layot you like ...

I was originally dubious about the value of sanwa buttons and either sanwa/seimitsu (stick). But as soon as I got a custom stick I loved it for all games.

Just put the initial practice in to get used to playing with a stick (not actually too much) and you will see the light :P

I am a (not the best) psyvariar 2 fan and the difference in movement that I have on a seimitsu/sanwa is really a huge thing when rolling. For all other games a reduction/complete lack of bounce back on the stick is ... erm ... just needed :)

sanwa buttons - just the best - light touch, plus reliable and robust ...

If you hate modding theres a couple of people around who can do it for you ... as a note one french guy who modded sticks on ebay seems to have cut his costs by modding the following stick (althought his defualt stick was wired for both ps2 and pc usb if thats of interest)

I have one of these that I plan to mod and its prob better than dc stick in its standard form ...

anyways... that worked out rather long ... for moooore detail on controllers those fighters at http://forums.shoryuken.com/ know their bits and have some nice collections of info.
