Looking for a couple arcade games
Hello all,
Im looking for a couple games (on mame). Ive tried MAWS and google and all, as well as hours of scrolling through mame, but havent found them.
1. A helicopter shooter, looking straight down. I believe it was a vertical game. It has really good explosions, over a lot of jungle, and IIRC, it was a slow hover-style game, but then it would speed up and youd have to shoot F16s or something.
2. This one has has had me stumped for years. It was a side-scroller, horizontal I think, and I believe it was forced-scrolling. It was one of those gundam things, and you got a powerup to switch from plane to bot. The really great thing was that you got seemingly limitless upgrades untill you filled the entire screen with purple waves and blue blobs and missiles, so much that it would slow down to a snails pace. I remember a lot of platforms that, when you got close to, it would stand on them (not like it mattered) in bot mode.
I played these in the early to mid 90s. I didnt give much to work with, but Id love to find these games!

Nope! Those are great though. Im now almost positive it was horizontal and side-scrolling. I remember the name being really dorky too, something even my nerdiest my friends would lift an eyebrow to.innerpattern wrote:#2 is possibly one of the Macross games
It kinda reminded me of Keith Courage for TG16 when he got that armor. You could stand on the platforms, but you could just push the stick up and youd float/fly. When you were a plane though, I think youd still crash into the platforms. You could still be crushed by the force-scrolling, regardless.
Thats it! I didnt know there was a number II. I remember filling that thing with so many quarters at a bar down the street when I was a kid. Prolly more than $500. Thanks!PC Engine Fan X! wrote:The answer to question #1 seems like it could be the classic arcade shmup of Twin Eagle. It was shown and set on "Free Play" at the 2007 California Extreme show. And it was for sale at a mere $500 if you wanted it. ^_~

Sorry, it's not playable in Raine either. Only "supported". Or did they get it working? I have the PCB so I'm good.

Yes, its not supported in Raine. PCE either. So I loaded it up on the Genesis. Im pretty sure its the same name, but it plays like poop compared to what I remember..
The weapons arent nearly as upgradeable, IIRC. I remember the balls getting bigger, then changing colors, and then bigger "waves", and it seemed to go on forever. As you have the PCB, I think you will attest. Your screenshot looks gorgeous compared to the pantload I just witnessed.
Ooh, ooh, more screenies!
Thanks all.
