LittleBigPlanet delayed due to words from the Qur'an......
http://ps3.ign.com/articles/921/921009p1.html
Interesting. Ya' know, out of all of the games out there, LBP would be the last game I would think would have anything from the Qur'an in it. I would expect that in Assassin's Creed or a war game set the Middle East.
Still, I think they made the right decision, and agree with the poster who said that the developers should've done their research about the song first.

Well, on the one hand, I think they're being smart-the last thing a game that should sell very well needs is controversy.
But, overall, I think they are being way too pc about this-I doubt anyone would have noticed those verses. As people on IGN pointed out, GTAIV has plenty of offensive content, but that was never taken out, nor was the release date pushed back because of it.
And it's not as if these verses are in an M rated game with a bunch of sex and violence.
I do wonder, however, what verses they are?

The words are:dave4shmups wrote:I do wonder, however, what verses they are?
1- In the 18th second: "كل نفس ذائقة الموت" ("kollo nafsin tha'iqatol mawt", literally: 'Every soul shall have the taste of death').
2- Almost immediately after, in the 27th second: "كل من عليها فان" ("kollo man alaiha fan", literally: 'All that is on earth will perish').
I have way too many questions regarding this. Why were they there in the first place? Was it intentional, or just put in to be "stylish" with the developers being unaware of the lyrics? It's quite a dark thing to have in such a game. It would be almost the same as having subliminal messages in Bomberman.

I'm guessing that Mm assumed no one would find the lyrics offensive. The dude who wrote the song is Muslim, according to the internets.Elixir wrote:Why were they there in the first place?
There are a number of Muslims who have spoken negatively about the change, saying that they didn't mind the lyrics or viewed the exposure to the Qu'ran as a plus.
Honestly, I'd like to read some support for this move outside of the one forum who sent the mail....because right now it's seeming like a tiny minority got their panties in a twist and decided to speak for all Muslims.

That means Spadgy and Rupert H now have some uber rare original versions of the game!

What a bunch of shit. What the fuck is wrong with us that two phrases from the Qur'an is reason enough to delay the release of the game? Bunch of hypersensitive douchebags.
Feedback will set you free.

I don't get what everyone's pissed about. Are PS3 owners that bored that they're annoyed about this delay because it might seem trivial to them? This game appeals to all ages and shouldn't have stuff like that in it in the first place. If I was in charge of somewhere like ESRB - which needs certification for a game to be released in the US - I would recall the game as well. But this should have been done sooner, so I'm glad I'm not in that position otherwise I'd be currently labeled as a slacker.
Seriously, by adding this, what were they thinking?

I completely agree, and while they're at it they should rename the game to just "Planet" incase any dwarfs or giants get offended.

Yeah, but those are pretty dark phrases from the Qur'an that are totally out of line with the whole theme of the game, anyway, as Elixir noted. The central theme of LBP isn't death and the end of the world.Acid King wrote:What a bunch of shit. And let's face it, the PS3 needs more must-own titles, and the last thing they need is controversy over such titles.

Dwarfs don't like to be called midgets...in today's politically correct world, they are referred to as "height challenged people". Having come across a few at my work at one time or another, I treat them with respect just like anyone else. ^_~Motorherp wrote:I completely agree, and while they're at it they should rename the game to just "Planet" incase any dwarfs or giants get offended.
I can recall when Nintendo of America delayed it's NES release of Super Mario Bros. 3 game...originally it was supposed to come out in March of 1990. American retailers got word from NOA that the release had been delayed because of "so-called" production shortages. I paid upfront, my $5 bucks pre-order for SMB3 to ensure that I got a copy on day one of release back in March of 1990.
When SMB3 finally went on sale in April of 1990, it turned out that NOA had artifically halted the release of SMB3 to create more anticipated demand for it. There was no "production shortage" at all...NOA had plently of warehouse storage space and SMB3 carts ready for retail sale back in March of 1990. Smart move on NOA's part for pulling that "little" dirty stunt off successfully. Some former NOA employees have been known to retire wealthy (in the seven figure range) working for NOA back in the day...no shit. ^_~

Ha ha, Nintendo are STILL pulling that stunt! The fabriciation of shortages is one of their number one tactics, and nobody does it better.

You could call up a store and ask when the next shipment of the Wii Fit will be in. Then make the trip to the store when they finally arrive. That little insider tip works wonders for me. ^_~Skykid wrote:PC Engine Fan X! wrote:Dwarfs don't like to be called midgets...in today's politically correct world, they are referred to as "height challenged people".
